February 8Raise Praise
Your praise reaches to the ends of the earth.
Psalm 48:10You can generally tell where a map was drawn by what lies in its middle. We tend to think our home is the center of the world, so we put a dot in the middle and sketch out from there. Nearby towns might be fifty miles to the north or half a days drive to the south, but all are described in relation to where we are. The Psalms draw their map from Gods earthly home in the Old Testament, so the center of biblical geography is Jerusalem.
Psalm 48 is one of many psalms that praise Jerusalem. This city of our God, his holy mountain is beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth (vv. 12). Because God is in her citadels, He makes her secure forever (vv. 3, 8). Gods fame begins in Jerusalems temple and spreads outward to the ends of the earth (vv. 910).
Unless youre reading this in Jerusalem, your home is not in the center of the biblical world. Yet your region matters immensely, because God will not rest until His praise reaches to the ends of the earth (v. 10). Would you like to be part of the way God reaches His goal? Worship each week with Gods people, and openly live each day for His glory. Gods fame extends to the ends of the earth when we devote all that we are and have to Him.

Reflect & Pray
How have you spread Gods fame this week? What else might you do?

Hi Kathy. I love Frank Sinatra the chairman of the board. LOL old blue eyes. My mother loved him so much and my father give her a fantastic gift to see Frank Sinatra in person in Chicago, where I grew up.

The Thanksgiving snow was not gone and we have had it covered twice by new snow. National news and snow are a good reason to stock up on popcorn

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
RICHARD RODGERS
CAROUSEL: YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
If there were ever a song to compete with Harold Arlens Over the Rainbow as the Great American Song, this is it. Oscars lyrics were pure corn, and Richard reacted to it with a melody of disarming simplicity. There is nothing quite like it in the Songbook.
This film clip is from the 1956 movie. In the original Broadway show, Billy kills himself after a botched robbery. The studio feared that moviegoers would react negatively to suicide, so his death in the movie was handled by an inadvertent self-inflicted knife wound.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
RICHARD RODGERS
CAROUSEL: YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
The first recording is from the Axel Stordahl era at Columbia. This is early Frankie, and Axel could be sugary.
Frank Sinatra: Youll Never Walk Alone
He was 74 in 1989 when he performed in this video from the inauguration of the Elder Bush. His voice was pretty well shot, but it only added poignancy to the performance. Five years later he would be gone.
