Americans Joining Workforce at Record Rate. Nearly three of four Americans who became newly employed in recent months came from outside the labor force

A tight U.S. labor market is drawing Americans off the sidelines at a record rate.

Nearly three of four Americans who became newly employed in recent months came from outside the labor force—meaning they weren’t actively looking for work prior to the month they accepted a job. That is the highest ratio in three decades of records and helps explain how employers have consistently added jobs without stoking stronger wage growth.

The unemployment rate, 3.6% in January according to the Labor Department, is trending near a 50-year low. That leaves employers with a shallow pool of candidates actively searching for a job. But millions of Americans are on the edge of the labor market—interested in working, but not searching. Last month, 4.8 million of them took jobs, more than offsetting the number of Americans who dropped out of the labor force, including retiring baby boomers.

“As job growth is outpacing the rate of population growth, folks are increasingly coming off the sidelines, and going directly into employment,” said Nick Bunker, an economist at job-search site Indeed.com.

Americans taking jobs without spending much time searching suggests there is a bit more slack in the labor market than the unemployment rate implies, and gives the record-long stretch of job creation more room to run.

“We could see continued strong job gains for quite some time.” Mr. Bunker said.

These new entrants are helping push the share of Americans in their prime working years, age 25 to 54, back to near prerecession levels.

Labor-force participation for that group has increased by a full percentage point in the past six months to 83.1% in January, the highest rate since September 2008 but still below the record high of 84.6% reached in 1999.

Awesome. This is how they kick the can down the road on SS and Medicare. We have to grow out of most of it. Taxing more isn’t a good solution. Growth is the solution.

For the first time in 20 years, I am actually being recruited for jobs instead of being the enemy. Straight, white, middle-aged, senior executive.

Feels good for a change.

And this is one of the points we should be mentioning when idiot Obama-worshipers say that Trump just inherited an improving economy.

No, what Trump has done in the last three years has actually changed the economy. It’s not an economic recovery, it’s a major economic development. And the word “development” just doesn’t cover it. Maybe I should use “evolvement”.

In the 2015-16 campaign, Trump correctly criticized the way unemployment statistics were collected.

Is he doing anything to get them collected correctly, more accurately?

Allegedly they survey 60,000 adults which is 138 per congressional district, 1 in 5,666 persons. How are those 60,000 selected? Are they truly representative?

It seems to me there are still many unemployed who want to work. They are constantly sending resumes , constantly showing up cold call for interviews. At times a hiring manager wants to hire them.

But HR will not let the Hiring Manager hire whom he has interviewed and wants to hire.

Typically homemakers and ex-military are most common in this group. But others also.

Has Trumps’s DOL figured out a way to more accurately count them?

THIS is why the unemployment number isnt below 1% now. These new workers were not included in the first place, being out of work for so long during obammunism, they are no longer being counted.
