Despite a continued explosion of “gun sanctuaries” in nearly every corner of Virginia, the new Democratic-controlled legislature on Friday took the first step to ban sporting rifles, large-capacity magazines, and suppressors.

In a 12-9 vote, the House Public Safety Committee voted to ban “assault weapons” such as the popular AR-15 and AK-47, magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, and sound suppressors effective July 1.

~~~SNIP~~~
The legislation was amended so that those who own the banned weapons would not have to give them up or register them, but the ban on big magazines and suppressors would stand.
If their over-reach is sufficient, voters will oust them in the fall.
Hope that happens here in Colorado!
Hopefully this will result in a giant lawsuit against the state.
Yes, Gov. Coonman...you and your treasonous ilk take that first step. Right into the landmine.
Texas got it right in 1836.
“It has demanded us to deliver up our arms, which are essential to our defence, the rightful property of freemen, and formidable only to tyrannical governments.”
“...TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENTS.”
Going to ban suppressors?
They have no idea who owns those, I know several of my products are in VA, and it was not the ‘Po Folk’ who bought them at around $3K each!
They may just find that their next round of fundraising does not go well.
And the suppressor owners will have Standing for their suit as the law robs them of the value of their property.
Just another example of knee-jerk extremism, ONE known example of a suppressor being used in a crime, out of tens of thousands legally owned, and here comes another ‘Ban’.
I won’t call them Idiots, that would be insulting to real Idiots, these drones are not smart enough to be Idiots!
.... and all across the land, the soft “click” of rifle safeties being disengaged could be heard.
Yep. Million man marches don’t mean anything if you just go home and continue to take it.
Suppressors? Sorry, Federal law trumps State law. Suppressors are legal...with the proper BATFE paperwork. Or does Virginia think the 10th amendment gives them the power to ban suppressors? I know if you go up the Bill of Rights by 8 amendments, you’ll find one that has “shall not be infringed” in its language.
But a Ruger .223 rifle is okay because, although it shoots the same bullet as an AR-15, it’s not mean and scary looking.
I'm afraid COlorado is just as hopeless as Commiefornia, at this point. Love my state, but the left is in firm control, with no signs of being stopped by voters.
This would give your suppressor owners standing to, as citizens of the USA, demand their “right to keep” - as their “arms” were formally acknowledged, confirmed, and authorized _in_writing_ by the federal gov’t.
Wait, you’re telling me in VA if you own an AR-15 you must turn it in? or is it now illegal, what does that even mean to ban AR-15’s?
