New Haven police to distribute ‘crack’ pipes, syringes, in hope of keeping addicts alive

City police will begin distributing “harm reduction kits,” including clean syringes and glass pipes, with hopes of keeping those battling drug addiction alive until they are able to commit to seek treatment.

Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said officers often seize and discard needles and pipes, among other paraphernalia, when making an arrest.

But often times, once people are released from custody, they rush to use, driven by addiction — and use unsafe or unfamiliar equipment, placing at them at greater risk of overdosing or contracting HIV.

“While many think that the primary responsibility of police is to protect and enforce the laws, for us in New Haven, the primary responsibility is the protection and the preservation of life. Although there are many situations where we have to arrest, we want our people to know that want to we support every individual’s road to recovery,” said Reyes. “This epidemic is complicated. This affects every facet of our community. And the New Haven Police Department cares deeply about every member of its community.”

Yes, let’s keep them alive so they can continue to prey on society.

You will not change until the pain of what you are doing is greater than the pain of changing. This program makes it easier for them to not hit bottom.

A few extra clean anything won’t keep feeble minded people alive.

Modeling wonderful San Francisco, where the city distributes 4.5M needles annually. That’s not a typo.

New Haven. University town.

New Haven is a cool city. Unfortunately, all the working class people want to leave, due to high taxes and dumbassery by their politicians.

“This epidemic is complicated. This affects every facet of our community. And the New Haven Police Department cares deeply about every member of its community.”

Because labeling criminals victims and providing them with drug paraphernalia is such an effective crime fighting technique. /s With leftist solutions like this it is no wonder they have one of the highest crime rates in the entire country. They are now rated at the bottom 2% of all areas in the country for “livability” by areavibes.com. Their crime rate is 84% higher than the rest of the country; their school test scores are 53% lower. It is just so special that their police really care about the criminals. /shttps://www.areavibes.com/new+haven-ct/livability/

This great stupid PC reality earns multiple Darwin Awards - Removing Drug addicts from the breeding pool is a good thing for the rest of the world. So, supply the drugs for free and let them kill themselves.

The good news is they will be free to assault Yale students.

Sometimes a good mugging can covert a lefty to a conservative—not always, but still now and then. ;-)

Swimming upstream here...

Harm reduction policies are the end result of failed drug policies.

It also is far cheaper than incarcerations.

Cheaper and saves lives is a win/win in my book.

Putting junkies in prison rarely breaks their habit in the long run.

How about trying tough love. For those who willingly snort or swallow or shoot up drugs, just let them O.D. on the streets. There should be NO assistance given to those who of their own volition chose this degenerate lifestyle. Why should hardworking taxpayers be enablers for their filthy habits? What’s next, giving matches and incendiary devices to help pyromaniacs curb their urges?

Now they have essentially made the police enablers, if not put them on the same level as dealers. I don’t understand how any officer would continue on that city, I would be looking for a job elsewhere.
