I remember visiting Mumbai on a ship once, and it seemed at least 75% our crew caught a cough that lasted weeks. Fortunately it wasn't serious, but very contagious in a shipboard environment. A cruise ship is like a petri dish.
So true about the petri dish thing. There have been instances where a passenger gets on with norovirus... and by day 4 or 5 of the cruise, 300+ people have it
EVERYONE here in Vietnam, is wearing a mask in public.
Everyone.
We’ve only got 12 cases (same as America) but this place is buttoned down already.
The 61 cases came from a sample of 273 people who had been tested because they were either showing symptoms or had been in close contact with those who did, according to the health ministry.
...
The number jumped because the tests are coming back.
There’s no reason to spread fear.
Thanks for nothing, China.
Ship of fools.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Of course it will spread through the ventilation system.
This is a death ship floating.....
A Royal Caribbean cruise ship scheduled to dock in Bayonne, New Jersey, early Friday has at least a dozen Chinese nationals on board in isolation who will be tested for coronavirus, a source familiar with the ship said.
Every friggen time we sailed an underway trip half the damn ship came down with one bug or another. 70 guys all jamming the sh!tters simultaneously or hugging the rail doing the techni~color yawn.
These cruises are great fun!
So do you guys think this is going to ravage the US like it is currently doing in Wuhan? I just don’t think they’re being serious enough about stopping travel. Also, absolutely zero updates on the known cases in the US?
Here’s what I think.
1) You get the virus (possible 14 days until symptoms but able to spread it)
2) The virus takes 3 weeks to run it’s course
3) Probably contagious 2 weeks after
That’s a 1.5 ordeal per patient, assume s/he lives
400 Million people are in lockdown now. Guangzhou is added to the quarantine
Since the passengers are confined to their cabins it would appear that the virus is spreading via the room service they are forced to use
Corona/Infectious Disease ping.
Sorry if this is getting overwhelming, but it’s been a quiet few days and it seems that the virus is not stopping.
I will key word any articles I find with the words *corona* and *infectious* so if you want to look them up yourself, you can.
