The Department of Interior finalized a rule Thursday expanding drilling rights in Utah two years after President Donald Trump reduced the size of a pair of national monuments in the area.
Trump cut the size of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante monuments in 2017, which created a firestorm of criticism from activists who said the presidents decision hurt Native American communities.
Bears Ears and the Grand Staircase contain vast amounts of oil, gas and coal, as well as grazing land local ranchers hope to use for cattle.
The areas excluded from monuments are protected by federal environmental laws, acting DOI assistant secretary Casey Hammond said in a statement.
With these decisions we are advancing our goal to restore trust and be a good neighbor, he said Thursday.

I can envision the jealousy-reeking Romney trying to figure out how he, his family members and/or his nasty cronies can get their cut of the oil/gas wealth there.
Neighboring American Indians will get plenty of new job opportunities...
REMEMBER - This was one of the last acts that Obama did by Executive Order. He expanded, or named, a massive amount of new ground as National Parks.
Trump is restoring balance and common sense to the National Park system.
Greta is a strange girl who has been victimized and terrorized by some radical parents.
I would have made 250 bucks more a week when I was driving livery to get back into the swing of things after being sick.
It was the obummer era and gas was 4 bucks plus.
Now I’m rotting in an office again but I still save money on gas :)
I remember hearing at the time that their were native Americans who wanted the national monument reduced..
And money
Thank you Mr. President.
I shot a great big muley buck on the Bear’s Ears. Good memories.
Chances are the enviros have never been there. Not far away they have a site for practicing human Mars landings.
Authorize drilling in Romney’s back yard.
Bears Ears has some very unique and important archaeological sites. Almost any reasonable person, and especially conservatives, would agree they need protection.
However, Obama simply used this commonly known fact, to expand a huge area that included these, but also included lands that are hardly at risk nor are they historic. President Trump properly reduced the size of the National “Monument” by listening to people who actually know the area. There was a broad coalition that supported President Trump’s actions.
Blatant overreach by Obama in an attempt to stop energy development through a grotesquely large land grab under the guise of creating national monuments. It was a travesty, only real Koolaid drinking activists thought it was a good idea.
Butt I am. Bigly!

As for sacred ground, it is only Sacred ground in the sense that All that vast country is considered Sacred.
National monuments, not national parks. Presidents create the former, Congress the latter.
Didn’t/aren’t they losing jobs in the Farmington area with power plant closure?
