Washing hands frequently proves effective to reduce chances of contracting the virus

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Chinese health expert revealed that the novel coronavirus originating in Wuhan can survive five days outside of the human body and urged members of the public to wash their hands frequently for their own protection.

Jiang Rongmeng (蔣榮猛), a doctor at the Ditan Hospital in Beijing and a member of the National Health Commission of China, said that the coronavirus 2019-nCoV can live up to five days at the right temperatures and humidity levels, reported CCTV. He made the revelation at a news briefing on Hubei Province’s effort to fight the spread of the illness on Monday (Feb. 3).

An ambient temperature of 20 degrees Celsius plus a humidity level of 40 to 50 percent are conducive to the survival of the Wuhan virus, Jiang said.

There have been reports of DNA samples collected from a confirmed patient’s home in Guangzhou testing positive for the novel coronavirus, an example of how the virus can survive on surfaces. This means rigorous hygiene practices including washing hands with soap are crucial to fending off the potentially deadly virus, which has afflicted over 20,000 with more than 400 fatalities.

While some infections appear to have been asymptomatic since the outbreak in late December, Jiang noted there has been no evidence of virus mutations at this stage. He added that developments are being closely monitored.

Bye bye, San Francisco.

Still trying to find out how you become a ‘pert’ in the first place.

5 days survival on surfaces in conditions that are quite typical of indoor environments and 14 days without symptoms. Not good.

How much of our food supply has been tainted by food processors in China?

I agree that there are no experts, but being “a doctor” at a “hospital” in a big city and “a member of” a “National Health Commission” might get someone closer to being an expert than most. Such a person was probably also educated in the West.

Remember when AIDS was the rage of the day?

The health agencies never admitted a kid with AIDS could leave saliva on a pencil on a desk. Another kid having an open sore on his hand or in his mouth, could pick it up and not thinking, and become infected.

We’re talking days later.

It was probably possible then.

I’m sure it’s possible now.

Yeah, I guess so.

I have a lot of sympathy for what’s happening to the populace over there right now.

Basically trapped in your house for weeks at a time. It makes you want to stock the pantry.

Wouldn’t hoit, and if you’re over 55, it’s probably a lot more important to.

Seems to be pretty hard on older folks.

“Soap and water should be used preferentially if hands are visibly dirty.”

Only if your hands a visibly dirty.

Visibly dirty - that explains why so many folks leave the restroom without washing their hands after going poop. If you can't see brown, don't hang around.

FOr those that haven’t seen it..the lab who had the chinese spies had a researcher who just died. He specialized in HIV/AIDS research and worked with coronavirus.

He was also a raging alcoholic who used himself as a guinea pig for brain surgery to combat addiction.

Let all that soak in.

Could all be unrelated..or not
