SEOUL - A South Korean woman returning home after a trip to Thailand has been infected with a strain of coronavirus that has killed over 400 people in central China's Wuhan city.
The patient is a 42-year-old woman who arrived in South Korea on Jan 19 and started feeling chills on Jan 25, the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) revealed on Tuesday (Feb 4), the Yonhap news agency reported.
She was tested postive for the viral infection on Monday after her condition did not improve despite receiving treatment, said the KCDC.
Now infected with Chinese virus but from travel to Thailand? This is out of control, just not treated as such yet. Sounds like all travel to region needs to be halted. Blame the Chinese.
Damn...third party nationals now. Glad they caught it and have her under treatment.
It’s probably airborne in the airport bathrooms.
Flush the potty and the spray becomes an aerosol with it.
Your own bathroom is probably covered in e.coli from the same effect.
She was in South Korea and infected with the virus for two full weeks before she went to the hospital. God knows how many people she infected during that two weeks. And how many times has this been repeated around the globe? We can only hope this thing is less contagious and has a lower mortality rate than we have seen in Wuhan, or it could end up being the most deadly virus since the Spanish Flu.
We’ve thought about that.
we wash them before and after we brush.
I know the odds are one in a billion, but it makes me wonder. I opened a package this afternoon, the contents were made in Thailand. O.o
At some point this could start affecting shipping and deliveries.
Yes, a big concern with any fast delivery as I read that the virus can survive on surfaces for five days. Bet longer with right circumstances.
How many people did she infect over the past two weeks that she was sick?
Johns Hopkins has a website that shows that Africa and South America have no infections and India has three. When those places blow out, you can foget ‘bout-it. For three months, this thing is going to ravage the earth.

How can you help? Stay healthy. Stay away from hospitals. Especially if you have the flu. Even if its this virus. Stay home and don’t go out. Take advil. Stay in bed. If you have family seperate yourself. Don’t go to work or school.
80% of the people who have it have fever and a non-productive cough (dry cough with little to no phlegm). When it gets really bad, you can expect nausea and muscle aches. Stay away from people 5 days before and 5 days after symptoms.
What makes this virus so bad is that it moves from person to person very easily. You can transmit the disease before and after symptoms. You can transmit it just by touch. And you can transmit it by touching an object and leaving virus on that object. That is pretty impressive for most flues or colds. Many people will get less severe symptoms. Great for you. But don’t power through it. You can still give it to your family and friends. And they may not be so lucky. It appears to kill some 1% to 2%. Those aren’t good odds for your family.
I am hearing there may be a temperature aspect to the virus, although I am not a scientist, and I have only heard this.
But what I heard is that if the temperature is above 25 degree centigrade, the virus will not continue to live a long time on a surface.
This is just something I heard. Do not know for a fact.
“At some point this could start affecting shipping and deliveries.”
It’ll play hell with the supply chain.
Thanks.
However that tends to confirm what I had heard, in part.
It is not 56 degrees here, but it is hot and wet, basically always.
Thanks for that link.
I keep my toothbrush in a glass of hydrogen peroxide. Have done so for over 20 years.
How do you ‘stay away from people 5 days before symptoms’?
How do you stay away from people 5 days before symptoms?
And that is a big problem. If you have been exposed and you know it. Stay home. The government is quarantining people from China for 14 days. And that is just from being in China.
I’m afraid there will be many cases where people are exposed but have no idea of it.
