EDAR RAPIDS, Iowa Fans danced gleefully to music while guzzling beer. Smiles abounded and deafening cheers arose without warning. And, in the restroom, someone was smoking what smelled like marijuana.
Yes, it was a concert. Yes, it was a party.
But it was also a rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the critical early voting state of Iowa, where Democrats will hold their first-in-the-nation caucuses in less than 48 hours.
The massive rally the Sanders campaign said 3,000 people were in attendance underscores the groundswell of support, especially from young voters, that Sanders has received during his 2020 presidential run and suggests hes in prime position for a strong finish in Monday nights caucuses.
Sanders, who was introduced by his wife, Jane, was greeted with a standing ovation, as people chanted his name.
We're not only going to win here in Iowa, we're not only going to win the Democratic nomination, but we are going to defeat this dangerous president, he said, prompting screaming and applause.
Sanders fans filled the floor and the first level at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids, where the concessions were open and individual vendors walked around selling beer and bottled water. The mens restroom on the floor level had the distinct odor of marijuana smoke.

A massive crowd of 3000. And they even served beer.
Then tomorrow Joe Biden wins and all the air gets let out of the Sanders balloon as the media talks about the “disappointing” finish for the “favorite to win Iowa.”
“A massive crowd of 3000...”.
Funny how NBC never referred to Trumps rally as “massive” where 7000 people inside and thousands outside attended.....and with no beer.
Go figure.
If they announce Biden as the winner look for the Ber-bots to become violent.
If they announce Sanders as the winner look for them become insufferable
I call that a Win-Win situation
I wonder how much they charged for the beer.
Bernie has Iowa walking away.
L
Like Hillary Clinton in November 2016?
If President Trump had music and beer, I wonder how many people will be there? 3,000 for Bernie?
Debates between Trump & Bernie will be pure gold.
I don’t think they know what the word “massive” means.
They’re fantasy because he ain’t going to be the nominee.
If Warren had wine and cheese vendors, would she get more people to come to her events?
3,000 LOL they consider that big LOL..President Trump can get 10,000 to show up without even trying
No Dimbulbcrat “massive” crowd will exceed even 10% of the Trump supports who couldn’t get into a Trump rally, but stayed outside to cheer anyway.
If that’s what they have to do to get crowds, they are in far worse shape than they realize.
I think they had to pay for there own beer....
That’s 3000 Iowans that won’t vote tomorrow. Hangovers. Smart move!
