The United States carried out an airstrike in January that killed a leader of Al Qaeda's affiliate in Yemen after months of tracking him, according to current and former government officials.
Qassim al-Rimi, 41, was killed in the January strike but officials had been waiting to confirm the information before making public statement, the New York Times reports.
The Yemen branch, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has been keen to attack the U.S. and Europe. Confirmation of al-Rimi's death would mean a significant blow for the group.

The way Trump is taking out terrorists reminds me of way back when Bush wanted to start the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The pretext was 9-11 being orchestrated by terrorist Bin Laden as well as the facade of WMD’s in Iraq.
I recall there were those that spoke out against going to war stating that Bin Laden could be taken out surgically without having to go to war. The administrations counter to that was they had an exit strategy.
(sarcasm on) It sure is a good thing the Afghan war only lasted six months with minimal US casualties. Good ole Bush kept to his word and did not feed the swamp’s military industrial complex. (sarcasm off)
