Democrats to ask Chief Justice Roberts to rule on witnesses amid fading hopes of winning vote
ABC "News" ^ | January 30, 2020 | By Stephanie Ebbs

Democrats are increasingly looking to get Chief Justice John Roberts involved in the debate over witnesses in the impeachment trial as Republicans claim they have the votes to block testimony from former national security adviser John Bolton and others.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., has said he plans to introduce a motion on Friday that would call for Roberts to rule on subpoenas for witnesses, documents, and questions on executive privilege around the additional information Democrats’ want to bring into the impeachment trial.

“No Republican can question the fairness of this approach- the Chief Justice oversees the highest court in our land and was nominated by a Republican President. And, given his authority to rule on questions of privilege, they should not fear a drawn-out process,” Van Hollen wrote in a statement posted on Twitter.

“I urge my colleagues to seek out the truth and the facts and to vote in support of my motion. Anything else constitutes an effort to hide the truth,” he said.

“I still wonder how the Rats got Roberts to rule in their favor on Obamacare...”

Right.

And I don’t think this is over by any stretch of the imagination. I smell a rat.

A Swamp Rat.

Hopefully I’m wrong.

They want Roberts to make the decision because they own him and he will rule for them or else!

The other reason Democrats want the Chief Justice to decide which witnesses are relevant is that if witnesses had to be subpoenaed and that went through to the Supreme Court, Justice Roberts might have to recuse himself from deciding if the witness would have to appear because he had already been involved in the case. Taking one conservative out of the mix could help the Democrats cause.

The comments on the website are mind-blowingly stupid. They must live in an alternate reality.

He has a job for life. No political fallout for him if he screws us

what’s DISGUSTING is that 3 Rs are making us even have to discuss this

Democrats to ask Chief Justice Roberts to rule on witnesses amid fading hopes of winning vote

Every time we get close to winning, the Dems come out with something else.

It's a roller coaster.

One moment I think the President has got a solid case, and the next moment, the Dems have thrown another wrench into the works.

I would like to see this over, but the Dems are never going to let up.

And the Repubs keep letting them get away with more and more.

When is this going to stop?

Corrupt people asking a corrupt judge to further corrupt a process that they have all corrupted.

These people are disgusting.

That was beautiful.

Enjoyed seeing bald-faced Schiff left in the lurch.....knowing Nadler had been lying in wait for that moment.

As enjoyable as watching frozen Hillary fall into the SUV.

Betcha Nanzi and Schiff are hatching a plan to let Nadler take the blame for sinking impeachment.

If Roberts pulls the Democrats’ nuts out of the fire, it will be his “Dred Scott” decision.

So let me get this straight -CvH offers a motion allowing the CJ to break ties, and it is defeated on party line votes. What a monumental waste of time.

Trump's Des Moines rally should make Democrats nervous
Washington Examiner ^ | January 31, 2020 | Philip Klein / FR Posted by kevcol
Hillary voter Ryan Chapman was at Trump's Iowa rally in a MAGA hat. “.....my mind was changed by how they attack
[Trump] and how they belittle him in every decision he makes. I have not seen this much smearing of a president ever...
I’ve never seen so much hatred towards a president.”

Does anyone know what happened to Dersch??? I looked for him last night, and now all I can find is that he quit the legal team. Nothing on him about this anywhere except on Drudge. . . True?

We have a Constitution that has abided since 1789, through one crisis after another, even a civil war, and it is plainly written. Changes can be made but only through a deliberate process the Founding Fathers made difficult on purpose.

Now the democrats are willing to toss that all aside; 231 years of history and precedent just to politically get one man.

Do they think it is worth it?

Could not this be used against them in the future?

Does the Chief Justice, who balked at taking away the first black president’s ultimate achievement not see the implications of history also being taken here?

The whole thing is patently unconstitutional and any rational lover of the United States would see this.

We live in a terribly lawless and shameless age!

“He has a job for life. No political fallout for him if he screws us”

He intervened and legislated from the bench before, there’s no reason to believe he won’t do it now.

“what’s DISGUSTING is that 3 Rs are making us even have to discuss this”

Collins has no choice, there’s NO excuse for the puke romney.

I can’t believe what fuc#### asshat that guy is.
