(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House intelligence committee, has released all but one of the transcribed interviews his committee conducted privately as part of their impeachment process.
At the impeachment trial on Wednesday, Republicans asked why Schiff is still withholding the transcript of Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, who testified about the whistleblower and his complaint in closed, executive session on Oct. 4.
Schiff has released the other 17 witness transcripts. But not Atkinson's. Why?
Schiff explained to the Senate:
The intelligence committee is continuing its ongoing oversight to determine why and how this complaint was initially concealed from the committee in violation of the law.
The ICIG, Michael Atkinson, continues to serve admirably and independently, as he is supposed to do. Like the Senate intelligence committee, the House intelligence committee does not release the transcripts of its engagements with inspector-generals on sensitive matters because doing so risks undercutting an important mechanism for the committee to conduct oversight.
The transcripts remain properly classified in conformity with IC requirements to protect sensitive information. The ICIG made every effort to protect the whistleblower's identity and briefed us with the...expectation, rather, that it would not be made public, and we are trying to honor that expectation.
Next up, President Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow remarked on Schiff's insistence on confidentiality for the whistleblower, while demanding that former National Security Advisor John Bolton spill his private conversations with the president:
But I also thought it was just interesting that manager Schiff just talked about the importance of how they control the process as it relates to a whistleblower report because of the sensitive nature of those.
Do we not think that the sensitive nature of information shared by the president's most senior advisers should not be subject to the same type of protections? Of course, it has to be.
I thought Dems wanted more witnesses? LOL.
The whistleblower met with a House Intelligence Committee aide seeking guidance before filing a complaint with the Intelligence Community inspector general and Schiff recruited two former National Security Council aides who worked alongside the CIA whistleblower at the NSC during the Obama and Trump administrations.
And it is being covered up with the aide of political hack John Roberts, a corrupt man.
Two can play at this game. The folks that showed Bolton’s dirt can hit Roberts.
This thing is OVER. Who cares about the whistleblower? He can be used to club the rats, but nothing more.
We’ve won, just coast to victory - don’t do anything to screw it up.
Democrats Masters of Transparency.
Oh for crying out loud. We've won. There is nothing more to do.
Really, you want the whistleblower called at this point? You want to screw around when we have a sure victory? Roberts is doing us a favor. Getting hung up on the whistleblower is a distraction, and just delays our victory.
In other news, Hakeem Jeffres just said that gun control is an instrument of tyranny.
I hope Trump fires a bunch of people when this is over.
I don’t think the whistleblower can be allotted the protections not spelled out in the law. I also think he should have sent his report up the appropriate channel - The Office of Inspector General for the Department of State is an independent office within the U.S. Department of State with a primary responsibility to prevent and detect waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. The ICIG had no dog in this fight
“The ICIG, Michael Atkinson, continues to serve admirably and independently, as he is supposed to do. Like the Senate intelligence committee, the House intelligence committee does not release the transcripts of its engagements with inspector-generals on sensitive matters because doing so risks undercutting an important mechanism for the committee to conduct oversight.”
Release the transcript or it cannot be used since it cannot be verified.
You want corrupt justices who make up laws?
Go celebrate, you got one.
We need another whistleblower to leak the suppressed testimony. Leak it, and go to the mattresses to keep his identity secret, because whistleblowers must never be named. Right? Right?
“And it is being covered up with the aide of political hack John Roberts, a corrupt man.”
Another of the Bush family’s gifts that keep on giving.
It might have been better had Gore won in 2000. He likely would not have invaded Iraq or Afghanistan and the national debt would be $5 trillion less plus many young American soldiers who died in the Middle East would have lived to see their children grow up. If the Republican majority had held in Congress, there would have been little Gore could have done legislatively. In fact, if the GOP had held the Congress with a Democrat president and no Middle East war, it is possible the balanced budget of the last two Clinton years would have been preserved. In the 2000’s we could have started paying down the accumulated national debt instead of doubling it.
The 2004 election would likely have been Gore versus McCain with a likely Gore victory unless the economy was in the tank. We would have been rid of McCain then, since if McCain had run for President he would not have run for reelection to the Senate in 2004. A loss to Gore in 2004 would have put him out of the Senate as well.
By 2008 the country would be tired of 16 years of Democrat rule. Lieberman, Gore’s VP, would have been the Dem candidate, not Obama. The GOP race would have been a free for all. If the conomic collapse of 2008 had occurred under Gore, the Dems would have been blamed by the people and a GOP candidate would have been elected with large majorities in the House and Senate.
What if history . . . fun to go down that rabbit hole sometimes.
Wouldnt that just be delicious to have someone from our side LEAK the deposition of the IG then call them a whistleblower protected from EVERYTHING!!! I LOVE that idea!!!
The invasion if Iraq is what TURNED Powell against us!!! He stood up there with the CIA lies of weapons of mass destruction and LIED himself because he believed their hype!!! I believe NOTHING coming from FBI or CIA any longer NOTHING!! Both of these department are completely incompetent!!!
