Top Senate Republicans are warning Rep. Doug Collins that running against Sen. Kelly Loeffler in Georgias special Senate primary could pave the way for an otherwise unlikely Democratic sweep in the state in November.
The shortsightedness in this decision is stunning. Doug Collins selfishness will hurt David Perdue, Kelly Loeffler, and President Trump," National Republican Senatorial Committee Executive Director Kevin McLaughlin said in a statement.
Collins, a Trump ally and part of his impeachment defense team, announced his Senate candidacy on Wednesday. He was passed over for an appointment to the Senate by Gov. Brian Kemp after Johnny Isakson resigned at the end of last year.
"For months, I have given serious deliberation to the role I should serve that would best benefit GA, the country and @realDonaldTrump," he tweeted. "Today, I have officially launched my campaign for Senate to do just that."
Collins addressed concerns that he and Loeffler may "tear each other apart and open up the seat for a Democrat."
"We are not concerned about that at all. Im concerned about going for the people of Georgia," he said. "We just need to have a process that lets people decide, lets them choose for themselves how they want to see this vision. I think we fought for the president, we fought for our state, and we fought for this country. And we're going to continue to do that. I look forward to a good exchange of ideas and look forward to this election."

She has given us no reason to want her ousted. She is pro-life, and has vehemently supported President Trump's agenda, and is adamantly defending him during this bogus impeachment.
The Senate is not supposed to hand pick its own membership. Or block from election (through the NRSC) those it doesn’t want. But that’s exactly what’s been going on.
And it’s how we end up with so many pantywaists.
Let's see, submitting the selection of a senator to the vote of the people rather than acquiescing in the choice of one man is somehow "selfish."
It is time the elites of the Republican Party gave way to the people.
Challenging a sitting incumbent didn’t work out so well for Bob Barr.
Kemp is a RAT....he should have named Doug Collins.....I don’t trust this girl t be a strong conservative
Actually it might be if it keeps her voting with Trump through impeachment, etc.
The Senate GOP always backs its RINO own.
Competition is usually a good thing but I see nothing in Collins’s statement that distinguishes him from Loeffler.
So yeah what’s the plan here?
What’s Collins saying he can do that Loeffler can’t or won’t do?
If Collins and Loeffler faced off in a primary for an open seat, Id vote for him in a heartbeat. But since shes running as an appointed incumbent, the REAL question should be: What does the U.S. Senate accomplish via legislation or Senate confirmation process with Doug Collins in that seat instead of Kelly Loeffler?
The answer, I suspect, is NOTHING ... which is what makes this something of a curious decision by Collins.
Thank you.
I here it’s a jungle primary. If the top two vote getters are D’s there will be no R.

I don't know much about her.
One reason the NRSC wanted Loeffler in the first place was that she is very wealthy and will not need much (if any) help from the national GOP. Can Doug Collins say the same thing?
These committees are all about incumbent protection.
It's also how we wound up with a Democrat as governor of Louisiana and so few Republican congressmen from California. Acrimonious jungle primaries help nobody but the Democrats.
______________
I just looked her up. It mentioned that her husband, "Jeffrey Craig Sprecher (born February 23, 1955) is an American businessman and is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Intercontinental Exchange and Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange".
More of the same............ and she apparently has her cushy job working with him.
Incumbency is a very powerful asset in the Senate. In any given year, youll notice that most of the seats changing hands are open seats, not incumbents losing their re-election bids.
The answer, I suspect, is NOTHING ... which is what makes this something of a curious decision by Collins.
___________
I tend to agree.
Doug wants a bigger hat. (jmo)
I didn’t know she was wealthy. Thank you for posting that as I’ll take it on belief.
That helps to make sense of what McConnell’s group is posing for.
But it still doesn’t explain what and why Collins is thinking he needs to interject himself.
