CHICAGO - Beyond Meat said on Wednesday it will supply plant-based fried chicken to several KFC stores in Tennessee and North Carolina, after a test conducted last year showed strong consumer demand.
Fast-food chains including McDonalds, Burger King, and Dunkin Brands have raced to add imitation meat products to their menus as Americans cut down on animal protein consumption. While those companies have rolled out imitation pork or beef patties, Yum Brands Incs KFC is the first to launch plant-based chicken.
The product is 80 calories per piece and looks a bit like a fried chicken nugget, with a sinewy texture designed to feel like chicken. It will be available next month in dozens of stores in and around Nashville, Tennessee, and Charlotte, North Carolina, the companies said.
KFC said it would take what it learns from those markets to better understand how offering the imitation chicken will play out nationally.

I don’t see this working out.
I find that hard to believe.
a sinewy texture..?
Soylent Green 2.0
Coming soon to a KFC near you
What next .. MCRibs made out of recycled rubber trees?
Wendy’s chili made out of recycled transmission fluid?
Chemeat? Plants + a lot of other uh, items added?
I suspect southerners want real fried chicken, not some soy based fake meat.
“What next .. MCRibs made out of recycled rubber trees?
Pig anuses.
This will cause monster sales. For Popeye’s, Bojangles, and their other competitors.
Ya gotta cook those things just right or they’re not very good.
I’ve had Beyond Meat sausage at DD. It’s not bad.
“Soy” is a dirty word now?
I seem to recall fast food places trying to sell plant-based fake meat products before, with little success.
Whoever is making the soy fake meat must have a very aggressive marketing pitch to the fast food companies.
Isn’t it funny, how vegetarians/vegans try to claim that eating meat is unnatural, but they want to eat fake highly processed soy “meat”?
Jackfruit is probably what they are using. From what I’ve read, unripened jackfruit, when baked and seasoned, can be used as a pulled pork and pulled chicken substitute, having a very similar texture.
How soon will they replace regular meat with it and hope nobody notices?
Like when they replaced cane sugar with HFCS.
Right, give it to this a@@hole, so he can grow some skinny man soy boy teats. And add more vegan insanity to his already greasy insane cerebrum and defined metabolism/DNA alterations.
NO, self assured Southerner, of any color, would eat vegan fake meat “fried” cheeeeekin! Good Lord!
Course we eat only what we have running in the free range cages— so we KNOW what we are eating. This is so stupid for marketers to do this. They’d have more success saying “it’s to avoid the chance of preparation of Chinese re-imported Smithfield chicken”. Seriously.

Stupid vegans want all their food to taste like meat for some reason.
A comedian proposed the sphincter’s breaded, fried, and stacked on a convenient serving stick. Like some mehicano taco truck creation. Deep fried a@@hole describes the Rep from TN pictured in the first reply post.
I think years from now, we will discover that some fast food meat has been substituted for fake meat without them telling us.
Just new forms of cancer in the making. ....
