A police officer in the US state of Maryland has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a man who had been handcuffed inside a patrol car.
Corporal Michael Owen Jr, a 10-year police force veteran, shot William Green, 43, seven times on Monday night in Temple Hills, police say.

The main thread said Green was IN THE FRONT SEAT!

But I think that claim was debunked. Nevertheless. Obama sons will be miffed. Or somewhat upset.
Or worse.
I saw a “related” headline further down, “Why do White police shoot unarmed blacks”?
The way the story reads, you think the cop was white till you actually see the picture. I live near there and have no idea what was going on, but it is the big thing on everybody’s lips right now.
The media suddenly lost interest in this story.
Of course, they’ll probably complain that the cop was only arrested because he is black, if he were white he’d get away with it scot-free.
The narrative is wrong.
Were Green’s last words, “Man, I don’t even have an opinion.”
I can see situations where a handcuffed person can present an immediate and severe threat to others.
I don’t have any idea what happened here, and not enough info in the story for me to form any kind of opinion, except to say the obvious, shooting a handcuffed man seems unusual.
Need more info.
I thought from the reporting in the earlier thread that the gun shot him 7 times.
“IIRC all police cars have cameras, and microphones, pointed at the back seat.”
The deceased supposedly was in the front seat according to first accounts but I have heavy distrust of the proffered narrative.
Someone above in thread said that it was later disproven, but I didn’t see it myself.
Working overnight does wonders for what you can see.

Yeh!
For sure that is going to void the manufacturers warranty!
And yes,if the cop had any kind of bad history....many complaints for example...that would be of interest. So would the cop having a history of drugs or alcohol.
According to reports, the police car didn't have a partition between the front and rear seat like a typical "patrol car", so standard practice would be to place a single suspect in the front passenger seat, not in the back.
I can think of situations at very close quarters where such a shooting could be justified, but the fact that the Chief and DA are going straight to full prosecution for murder in less than 24 hours tells me this was not one of those situations.
Sounds pretty bad, but I await more facts. As someone else pointed out the fact that the DA is moving for murder charges already is pretty damning
[[I can see situations where a handcuffed person can present an immediate and severe threat to others. ]]
Absolutely they can- handcuffed doesn’t mean disabled- some peopel can very very quickly slip their handcuffed hands from behind them to in front of them- and it could very well be the man tried to strangle the policeman- there just isn’t enough info to make a determination as to what occurred- more info needed- People wacked out on PCP or some other drug like that become incredibly strong and unpredictable- and it often takes several police to restrain someone like that- even small folks
And BTW...George Zimmerman was prosecuted despite the absolutely *irrefutable* proof that he was fighting off a filthy ghetto street punk.
