Dr. Michael Ryan made the comments to reporters Wednesday after returning from a trip to Beijing to discuss the new virus with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior government leaders.
Ryan says the epidemic remains centered in the city of Wuhan and in Hubei province but that

Also, the calculation depends upon Communists in China giving honest numbers. Can we really be sure?
They can screw off. Had to come out an apologize today about human error .
To date, about 99% of the nearly 6,000 cases are in China.
Except the US just got a plane load that landed in sunny Cal this morining.
I’ll just get on my knees and pray we don’t get fooled again...
“2% - That’s a BIG deal just sayin ... “
No, it really isnt, considering it is communist China, and basically a 3rd world nation with some 1st world wallpaper.
Like is anyone here really impressed with Chinese medicine? Most of those deaths are likely just from general incompetence.
‘Except the US just got a plane load that landed in sunny Cal this morining.’
Flights from the USA into, and out of China, have been happening every day. They might be limited, but they are still operating.
And they admitted they haven’t seen much data directly, just that they are trusting CHina and Xi is doing a great job.
..and that’s why the commies call these people useful idiots.
If 2% of my co-workers, neighbors, church members, and extended family died, I’d be going to a funeral every week during the winter.
At least they will be quarantined. Im more concerned about the 5 million Wuhan travelers that have flown all over the world in the past few weeks, with inadequate airport screening.
Hopefully we’ll learn a lot more about the virus by observing them.
Frankly, I can’t trust anything the Chinese are saying about it.
I would expect that the real numbers are about 10X what is claimed by Chinese officials. And a 2% fatality rate is a big problem for a disease that is basically as contagious as the common cold or flu.
2 percent isn’t a Big Deal when ALL we’ve been doing is comparing it to the 20 or 30 percent death rates of SARS and other illnesses.
Some people just get bored and love a crisis. We know the types.
I’ll be surprised if more than a few hundred die in the US.
VERY surprised.
China’s screwed. They hide and lie and deceive until it’s too late.
That’s why we live in America. :) Not perfect but a Million times better.
Youre correct.. im just being bad. ; P
I see what you did there.
Based on what we have seen in videos posted on the Internet by private individuals, medical care in Wuhan is massively overwhelmed.
The official Chinese government statements do NOT match the apparent situation on the ground.
WHO certainly knows this but cannot say so officially. The best they can do is make it clear that their statement is based on information provided to them by the Chinese government.
So... Since the statement from WHO explicitly relies on information from the Chinese government, the WHO statement cannot be considered reliable.
About all we can say right now is that a lot more people are sick than the Chinese admit. Beyond that we simply don’t know.
On the figures given out by China its .35%.
WHO has different information?
Same as Spanish Influenza.
A month from now we'll find it is well below 1%.
