Washington Post reporter Felicia Sonmez spoke out Tuesday evening for the first time since her reinstatement, blasting the decision to suspend her for a series of tweets relating to rape allegations against Kobe Bryant.
Sonmez said in a statement shared on Twitter hours after her reinstatement that Post executive editor Marty Barons handling of the incident left her unconvinced of managements commitment to the truth.
I believe that Washington Post readers and employees, including myself, deserve to hear directly from Marty Baron on the newspapers handling of this matter, Sonmez said in.
Washington Post journalists endeavor to live up to the papers mission statement, which states, The newspaper shall tell ALL the truth so far as it can learn it, concerning the important affairs of American and the world, Sonmez added.
My suspension, and Mr. Barons Jan. 26 email warning me that my tweets about a matter of public record were hurting this institution, have unfortunately sown confusion about the depth of managements commitment to this goal."

I’m on team Felicia on this one. Go get ‘em, Tigress.
Feel free to flame me. I got my Nomex underwear on. (Nomex is the fireproof stuff, isn't it?)
No, I think Nomex is the stuff that flames instantly... Smile... (you’ve got it right I think)
I don’t think her actions were damaging to the public, I just think it was low class.
As for the WP, fire away as far as I care. I’m not a fan of it by any means.
I guess I just get upset by folks who always think they’re owed something.
I think that is how most non snake oil buying people believed actually happened, years ago.
But, as The Bible says, God will not be mocked. What a man sows, he will reap. God reserves the right to decide when those seeds germinate.
Lecture the boss, yeah, that’s they way to the top.
What a whiney bitch with bad grammar.
Bye, Felicia!
mission statement, which states, The newspaper shall tell ALL the truth so far as it
can learn it, concerning the important affairs of American and the world,
Nobody wins in this one.
The reporter was crude and insufferable, and the WaPo was shown to be more concerned with image than facts.
They both lose, but pretty much everyone else wins.
The media has hired a certain number of woke feminists who think domestic abuse is the worst thing in the world and make it their crusade to destroy anyone who has ever been convicted or even accused of violence against women. To them, Kobe Bryant forever is a low-life rapist just on the allegation alone. They are #metoo on steroids.
For that, it makes perfect sense to her to bring up a rape allegation within hours of the celebrity’s death. She wants to make sure the world hasn’t forgotten what one woman alleged to have happened (they eventually settled out of court).
I don’t doubt that when Trump passes, the Access Hollywood tape or the Stormy Daniels allegations will be mentioned by the third paragraph. I’m actually a bit pleased they aren’t limiting this practice to conservatives and Republicans.
The Senior Senator from Chappaquiddick was a practicing Catholic. Bella Pelosi proudly proclaims that she's a prayerful, practicing,Catholic.Ilhan Omar claims that Islam is a "religion of peace".
I just threw that out there. His professed faith was also subjected to the judgement seat, as was Ted’s, Nancy’s, and someday all of ours.
