We live in Butte County. Conservative. But Chico State will provide enough liberalism for you. Housing a bit tight as the town of Paradise burned to the ground. Two casinos for entertainment both musically as well as dining and gaming. Drop me a line for more information.
Supplemented my retirement income for several years up here with dredge gold mining, made several thousand a year until the asshats in Sacramento shut us down.
Still lots of gold in the creeks and streams, just getting to old to get it the hard way; shovel, pan, or highbanker.
I am thinking of metal detectors now, once a gold miner - always a gold miner.
St. Louis would collapse long before the water arrived. Same with Cape. Just too many old unreinforced masonry buildings. Millions would die should that ever happen. Pray it doesn’t.
I hadn’t planned on doing that sort of thing, but it might be fun. I love goofing around near creeks and rivers.
I’ve looked at panning in the past. It might be fund just to try it a few times.
I’m familiar with that area. My former in-laws lived in Paradise. Was so sorry to hear of the devastation up there.
What an incredibly beautiful area...
They had family members that remained, but not being in touch with the family any longer, I’m not sure how they fared?
panning at well traveled intersections appears lucrative for some people...
“Georgetown has 3 cruise ships a few miles offshore. Ships being west of the island will likely shelter them from any tsumani.”
Actually, the tsunami could come from any direction - usually they are caused by a large underwater landslide which could occur anywhere in the area. It depends on the geography more than the location of the epicenter.
As for the cruise ships, they will be safer the further from land they are. Tsunamis are not these huge cresting waves that you could surf on an aircraft carrier, they are typically more like supersized storm surges.
I think it’s a great passtime if you have the time and the inclination.
It’s a cool think to do, for sure.
i’m looking at metal detectors to discover what’s lurking on my property...
here in florida if the water isn’t chlorinated and i can’t see to the bottom i stay away from it...
Lol
Upgraded to 7.7
Sounds like some pretty good guidelines there.
You’ve got some frisky critters in some of those waters too.
Do you or folks in your ares run into pythons?
i’m too far north for pythons, do have the occasional bobcats, coyotes, meth heads, rattlesnakes, and south americans...
Wow. 7.7 is a lot of shaking goin’ on.
We have bobcats and coyotes around my home here too.
I may have you beat on North and Central American foreigners. Don’t think we have more South Americans, but wouldn’t bet on it.
Glad you and your pets (if you have any) don’t have to deal with the pythons.
I felt a 3.2 in Santa Cruz, Ca. some 30+ years ago.
T shirts are being printed as I type.
i always keep an eye out when i let my four legged son outside to do his business...
shot two aggressive dogs when they approached and have a good size owl hanging out around here...
my property and surrounding area is heavily wooded...
We were in Lucea, Jamaica at Grand Palladium Hotel a year ago this week. Beautiful place.
