Trump praises Pompeo over handling of NPR reporter: 'You did a good job on her'

President Trump on Tuesday complimented Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for his handling of a dispute with an NPR reporter, making light of the incident and saying that the top diplomat “did a good job on her.”

Trump recognized Pompeo as “our great secretary of State” during remarks announcing his administration’s Middle East peace plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, before referencing his clash with the NPR reporter unprompted.

“That’s impressive. That was very impressive,” Trump said, commenting on the applause that Pompeo received from the crowd when he said his name. “That reporter couldn’t have done too good a job on you yesterday. I think you did a good job on her, actually.”

Trump’s remarks, which did not name NPR or the reporter specifically, prompted some laughter from the East Room, where the event was being held Tuesday afternoon.

Some may disagree but I would like to see Republicans boycott the media. Stop agreeing to interviews because they're not interviews. It's "Gotcha Journalism"

Mainstream reporters aren't looking to report news. They're looking to set their narrative. They're looking corner and entrap Republicans with their own words and unfortunately too many Republicans fall into their trap. Pompeo knew he was being set-up and he took control. Good for him. Unfortunately most Republicans try to be nice instead of confronting reporters for their duplicitous mendacity.

Watch the youtube video, "Don't Talk to the police". The Same Rules Apply: Don't Talk to the Police

And when a reporter shoves a microphone in your face, 'I have no comment at this time' is an appropriate response. Don't be baited by their shock questions intended to catch you off-guard and throw you off-balance.

Nothing annoys reporters more than being ignored and losing control of their narrative.

"I have no comment at this time". Walk away.

And, at his larger pressers, simply ignore the hostile activist ones, which is most.

I know The Hill wants me to clutch my pearls, BUT I AM EXSTATIC ABOUT THE WAY HE “TREATED” THAT SNEAKY, LYING, TYPICAL REPORTER.

Reporters, teachers, FBI agents, once respected and revered,

NO MORE!

'I have no comment at this time'

"at this time" added nothing to the meaning.

It's like putting "at" after "Where are you?"

The NPR “reporter” couldn’t point to Ukraine on a map. So she was kicked off the plane. And the issue is???

Heck don't even say that...they can spin it. Just say something like what what's her name said "I don't talk to liberal hacks pretending to be impartial reporters".

It's a rigged system regardless of whether they do or don't give interviews.

They present gotcha questions if you do.

They profess non-transparency in the administration if you don't give interviews.

As for NPR when your reporter breaks the code of “off the record” and you expect me to be okay with it my response is NPR you can go to hell and the lying POS that broke her word and to the rest of your stable of barn mule posers can go with you! Get off my plane, out of my building and out of my sight because you will be shunned, ignored and treated with the same lack of respect you showed me in your interview. And if your princess reporter got upset because I used the F word to her, perhaps she should reconsider what all her journalism instructors told her about being equal with men and being in the arena. She can put her big girl panties on and stop hiding behind her skirt, she can’t have it both ways.

Saw him too and it was another hit and run journalistic stunt. The Brit really thinks he’s something. Fox needs to dump him and republicans need to boycott him....

Yep.

We really don’t need or appreciate advice on how to be European, Steve.

That's a fine strategy but it isn't what happened here.

Pompeo agreed in advance to this interview and the reporter said Ukraine questions would be on the table.

He should have just hammered on the fact the Ukrainians begged Obama for military aid and the Democrats gave them nothing of substance. Eventually she would have given up and moved on to another subject.
