The impeachment trial spilled into its second week on Monday, as President Donald Trump's counsel presented more opening arguments on the Senate floor.
It was the first day back following The New York Times' bombshell report on Sunday that Trump's former national security adviser, John Bolton, had detailed in an unpublished manuscript a conversation where the president reportedly tied the release of Ukraine military aid to investigations into the Bidens.
ABC News has not independently reviewed the manuscript, but according to the Times, Bolton wrote that he had a conversation with Trump about the Ukraine aid and investigating his political rivals in August 2019.
The news put more pressure on the question of whether or not there will be witnesses during the impeachment trial.
Here's three things to know from Monday:
Impact of Bolton's reported conversation with Trump
Bolton's unpublished manuscript, which reportedly contradicts Trump's defense about the withholding of military aid, created a firestorm in Washington and put increased pressure on Republicans to make way for witnesses at the Senate trial.
Trump's team takes aim at Biden
Trump's defense team went after Joe Biden's son, Hunter, on Monday, going through the numerous questions that surround his time serving on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.
Abuse of power
Dershowitz, the former Harvard Law School professor who is playing a role on Trump's defense team, argued that a sitting president cannot be impeached for abuse of power

ABC, CBS and NBC didn’t bother to televise the hearings yesterday so most people wouldn’t know anything about this.
Last week it was on every channel.
She's literally one of those "27-year-olds" spoken of...
“spilled into its second week”...
Spilled? Really? You mean, as it was scheduled?
All you need to read...
Could local affiliates make their own decision to run it?
If so, why didn’t they air the hearing?
The big take-away for me from the Dersh. presentation is that the framers debated criminality as fundamental to even qualifying there be an impeachment. Statute criminality not “whatever-we-say-criminality-is”, criminality.
@sophie_tatum RE: “3 thing to know about Monday impeachment deal”
1. The articles are unconstitutionally vague.
2. Bolton’s “bombshell” is irrelevant as it ain’t impeachable.
3. MSM will spin from now until the end of Trump’s 2nd term because it’s what they do...
4. MAGA!!!
so the networks didn’t air it? unbelievable. on second thought, not really.
Of no consequence. It was on CSPAN and countless streams online
Last week it was on every channel.
And still ended the week with only 5 million watching by Friday. You can take a horse to the river, but you can't force it to drink water. No amount of TV coverage is going to force the American people to watch Adam Schiff.
I remember watching the Nixon impeachment hearings as a kid. IIRC, the broadcast nets took turns going wall to wall to ensure that not a minute went unaired.
Sick of bombshells, as we ride the liberal media roller coaster of political bias and propaganda.
Romney’s insistence that the GOP will break ranks and join the DEMs in calling for witnesses, which won’t include the Bidens, Schiff, Eric Ciaramella, or anyone else associated with the DEMs and the Deep State means little of this will prevent the circus from continuing for several more weeks.
The gallery is half empty. The journalists that are oh, so concerned cant bother themselves to fill a seat for the optics. Tells one all one needs to know.
“””””””Of no consequence. It was on CSPAN and countless streams online””””””””””””””
I am aware. I watched it on C-SPAN2. It wasn’t important enough to be on C-SPAN 1.
But what I am saying is when the democrats spent 21 hours lying it was on every channel. Now that the Republicans are telling their side it is nowhere.
Bolton last minute bombshell. Romney and Collins now want witnesses; but only Dems witnesses. The President will not be allowed to call any witnesses. It is shaping up to be what it always was, a coordinated effort to remove President Trump from office.
If/when that happens, what’s next? CWII? Acceptance? Certainly it is the end of the Republic as we know it.
Keep your powder dry!
All true and totally predictable. We have to thank God the media are not even close to controlling how we get information.
I didn’t see Dershowitz on FOX either. Watched it all on OAN. I believe FOX is in on the sham too.
About aid...If Congress had all the power...Why does the President have to sign off?
The hypothetical countereaxmple to that is the party president. One who uses the WH and taxpayer money to host parties 24/7, and does literally NOTHING in the job description.
That isn’t a crime.
One leading Democrat strategist last week pointed out that he was involved in a focus group of likely voters recently, and it was something like an hour and 20 minutes into the session before any of the participants even mentiones the impeachment.
