The virus can infect children and infants, but symptoms have been relatively mild, China’s health commission says

US companies are starting to restrict employee travel to China

The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China has soared to 106 and 1,771 new cases have been confirmed by Chinese authorities on Tuesday morning.

The total number of confirmed cases has climbed to almost 4,500 in China alone, with 26 new deaths reported in the country on Tuesday. Most of those who have died are from Hubei province, at the epicentre of the outbreak.

In addition to air transmission, the coronavirus can be spread through physical contact, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) said on Tuesday.

The incubation period of the new virus was on average three to seven days, with the longest being no more than 14 days, the NHC stated, adding that the coronavirus strain was 85 per cent similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars).

We are hearing a lot higher numbers through contacts in china and Hond Kong

Which may indeed be true, but which is also often the case in the early stages of an epidemic.

Shut down the border? I think it’s a good idea. I’m actually from the Eastern side and where my husband grew up, it’s about 17 miles from the border with Maine. I’ve always thought that any person who knew what they were doing in the woods easily hike to the US and no one would be the wiser.

And yeah I sure hope the incubation is shorter because two weeks, that’s not good at all

Coincidental that Trump signs the beginning of a trade pact with china and we get this form them

Trump needs to address this much more forcefully than he has. Temporary stock market decline is no excuse for not taking proactive measures. I don’t know where he could get non CDC advise but I’d trust CDC no more than any other federal bureaucracy.

Already in progress. From a dot not feather:

Opinion: Coronavirus threat needs a national emergency response. Trump's putting ours at risk.

I think his country's going to be hit a LOT worse than the US. Maybe he should resign his position in favor of a US citizen and go help his countrymen, instead of blaming Trump and demanding US dollars for the Third World (read his article).

Last Thursday's US map:

Yesterday's US map:

Yesterday's world map:

Since that map, the Johns Hopkins University heat map has upgraded china's total to 4474 confirmed cases and 106 deaths as of last night.

Growth is accelerating literally exponentially.

As a poster over on Instapundit said:

As of today, January 27, 2020, the figures in the chart, "Infected people in Mainland China according to the National Health Commission daily reports," at Wikipedia, for January 16-27 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wi... ) somehow fit an exponential equation with R² = 0.9951. The fit is so close that, in my graph in MS Excel, I can't distinguish between the curve connecting the points representing the reported numbers and the curve representing the exponential regression equation. I don't know whether to be awed or suspicious. Let x represent the date, and let January 16 equal 1, January 17 equal 2, etc. The regression equation then is y = 33.079e^(0.4095x). If the figures are real, and if the exponential growth holds true, one can expect 80,000 cumulative infections in China on February 3.

And according to a recent Reuter’s article, the number of infections is being vastly underreported. Right now, there are not enough test kits available to test even those who are reporting symptoms.

You basically can’t trust any of the numbers coming from a China.

It's hitting the rest of Southeast Asia.

Wait till it spreads (already a death of a Thai woman in India) in India and Africa.

Say goodbye to China's Imperial Dreams; say goodbye to the US H1-B industry; say goodbye to offshoring.

(Hint: would you buy food which you even suspected had a CHANCE came from China? And if the grocer or manufacturer lies about it...the dead consumer's family will OWN the entire company when the ensuing lawsuit is finished.)

I don’t see a media frenzy at all. In fact there are more stories about Kobe and Trump than this virus.

I come here for the latest on this virus, mainly because I do not provide clicks for the msm news sites. Have to scroll down on Breitbart, Infowars and even Fox. I don’t visit drudge anymore and haven’t for over a year.
I do hope this fizzles out and suspect it will faster than previous pandemics due to advances in our medical industry but I guess time will tell.

The johns hopkins website, which seems to be as professional as one can be at this stage, has a total of "Cases" -- "Deaths" -- "Recovered"

For the last 3 days the recovered number has been lower then the deaths number, but both have been rising in rough sync. The link has been posted earlier in FR threads, or ypu can google Johns Hopkins-Coronovirus-map.

If the deep state thinks they can use this against Trump, and somehow blame him, they’re stupider than anyone realized.

Yes, in many areas along the border it is easy to walk over.

And you’re certainly right about the incubation period. It would spread like wildfire.

Funny how it all got so bad right around the day the democrats’ low IQ impeachment accusations against Trump were turned around and dumped onto Biden and Obama.

Rule of thumb, any number of Deaths reported by a Communist Government should be multiplied by 100.
