The virus can infect children and infants, but symptoms have been relatively mild, Chinas health commission says
US companies are starting to restrict employee travel to China
The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China has soared to 106 and 1,771 new cases have been confirmed by Chinese authorities on Tuesday morning.
The total number of confirmed cases has climbed to almost 4,500 in China alone, with 26 new deaths reported in the country on Tuesday. Most of those who have died are from Hubei province, at the epicentre of the outbreak.
In addition to air transmission, the coronavirus can be spread through physical contact, Chinas National Health Commission (NHC) said on Tuesday.
The incubation period of the new virus was on average three to seven days, with the longest being no more than 14 days, the NHC stated, adding that the coronavirus strain was 85 per cent similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars).

And how many millions of people live in China? This is infinitesimal.
another post estimated that new cases were coming in at 2,400 per day and the spread is always exponential. If it doesn’t weaken it will be bad.
what makes it worse is that people are contagious before symptoms or a fever and that lasts for up to 14 days. It is a modern Plague in the making it seems.
LOL... Yes, just one child’s life it’s worth it. LOL. Perhaps it will be the life of some inner-city child who would otherwise end up being shot by the time they were 18.
Well I guess I’m grumpier and more cynical than usual LOL. I’m actually not a cynical person but I can be grumpy. :-)
You are right. This is just in the early stages.
Well that’s not good, to be contagious before symptoms appear.
Just trying to learn how NOT to touch my face with my fingers. It’s tough man. Helps if your hands smell of bleach. Kinda reminds you. Lol.
106 deaths out of 1.4 billion people is indeed infinitesimal.
But it’s the exponential spread combined with the death rate that is the concern.
If half of China’s 1.4 billion people get it, that’s 700 million and if 2% of them die, that’s 14 million deaths.
That’s a lot of if’s, but the potential death count is exactly why this needs to be treated very seriously and efforts to stop the spread need to be undertaken.
By contrast, if 50% of Americans got it and only 1% died, that would still be 1.6 million Americans.
That certainly warrants quarantining the 120 people currently being followed. At least until we know more.
Is that it is not going to be..
Do not close the borders! We’re a nation of immigrants.
Interesting. As one person wrote upthread, we will know more in about a week.
Tarzan Ebola? Stupid voice to text!!!
LOL,
Yeah I’ve thought about not touching my face too. But I grew a beard due to the cold weather and it’s sort of wiry right now and itches a little.
I think either I have to shave or I’m doomed.
Those are some very good points, Danny.
The CDC estimates that, so far this season [2019-2020], there have been at least 15 million illnesses, 140,000 hospitalizations and 6,600 deaths from the flu.

The only thing the survivors will all have in common. Bald and no beard. I am not shaving my head. Would rather chug corona. Lol.
lol
Have you heard how many flights from China come in to Vancouver every day? Are you in Vancouver?
We’ll have to shut down the border with Canada then.
Let’s hope the number of infected people where this disease incubated for 14 days are isolated outliers and that the incubation period is closer to 1 or 2 days. otherwise this going to get really, really bad.
of original 41 cases studied, all otherwise healthy, 6 died ... that is the *only real information* to come out of China - all the rest is only what the CCP permits which is any number that saves face and is politically acceptable to them.
