Romney says 'increasingly likely' GOP senators will back witnesses at Trump trial after Bolton revelations

Sen. Mitt Romney said Monday it's "increasingly likely" there will be enough Republican senators to vote in favor of calling witnesses in President Donald Trump's Senate trial to compel their testimony after major revelations from a soon-to-be released book from former national security adviser John Bolton.

"I think, with the story that came out yesterday, it's increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton," the Republican senator from Utah told reporters in brief comments. He said he hasn't fully made up his mind on calling witnesses, but what Bolton has to say is "relevant" and "therefore I'd like to hear it."

"I think it's increasingly likely that other Republicans will join those of us who think we should hear from John Bolton," Romney said. "I've spoken with others who've opined upon this as well."

At least four Republicans would need to vote alongside all Democratic senators in order to secure new testimony, which could lengthen the trial.

Everybody realizes, of course, that the entire Senate trial could go for much longer should witnesses be called in for testimony. There is one missing transcript from the House hearings that was NOT revealed with the presentation of the case to the Senate, and it may (or may not) contain sufficient exculpatory evidence to break open the whole Schiff/Nadler impeachment.

Hear that one out first. Then we shall speak of whether any live witnesses are added to the roster

McConnell controls the Senate and yet all we see on tv is Schumer! McConnell drives me crazy as do all Republicans.

So the defense has not even finished, but Romney has concluded that it is inadequate.

And therefore we should not try to verify any of it.

If Bolton is called, it’s just going to be a Bolton said, Trump said. Go ahead Mitt, call Bolton and Slow Joe will be called.

Mittens not smart enough to know any lawyer would say THE TRANSCRIPT is what happened and the president of the Ukraine didn’t feel any coercion. The aid was released and the investigation never took place removing the this was about.

Also waiting for someone to cite the Clinton era agreement with Ukraine re investigating corruption.

Boltons book is heresy at this point and unless he secretly taped the president and has those clear Quid Pro Quo words... ie. I want the Bidens because I need to eliminate Joe from the race, this is all dreaming.

Basing stuff off books should have seen the Clintons in jail a long time ago, so that Dem argument is worthless.

Fact: aid released. what was discussed or not discussed irrelevant. actions are what count.

Bingo the transcript is action. Zelensky saving no pressure action.

No investigation before aid released action.

Dems throwing more smoke to cloud the publics judgement.

I continue to get the vibe that this whole "allow witnesses" brouhaha is really a "briar batch" moment for the Trump team. They'd rather just wrap this impeachment up quickly, but if the Dems successfully pull the witnesses lever, with help from classic unwitting dupe Romney and others, Trump's team is going to unleash holy hell on them all.

And Bolton's going to be completely unworthy of the efforts that the Dems are expending to hear from him. He's got nothing earth-shattering to add. He's being coy because he's selling books and he likes screwing with them.

Would be neat for Mittens to be shown as a lone traitor.

It would be neat if people from Utah would flood his office with calls and protest at his offices and then throw him out of office.

Oddly, the disloyal opposition sees nanzi taking over the white house before summer. At least that’s what it feels like. Okay LOSERS!

It’s not a story. It’s hearsay. Have you already forgotten the “story” Harry Reid told about you not paying taxes for ten years?

Trump *preferred* sending no aid until the Ukraine turned over materials. That is not the same as ordering it withheld.

- -

So Trump asks, “I’d like to withhold aid”. Advisors say, “you can’t”. Trump says “ok”. Or, have we gotten to the point where it’s illegal for Trump to ask his advisors for advice? That even asking a question is a crime?

Truth29, your message is probably the most actuate post on FR in about a year.

Almost like it was planned........

Yep.

THIS was why Romney was put there by The Powers That WannaBe.

It's what he was hired to do.

Will it succeed?

Nope.

Romney.
A man who was leading after his first 2012 election debate and then THREW his election right out the window. He totally avoided raising any issues about the increasingly-poor state of the country, Obama’s patent promotion of the worst terrorist murder gangs in Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Israel, Somali, etc and etc, and of course Obama’s immigration, draft, social security, student, and eligibility issues.
Romney HAD that election. He HAD 99 percent at least of the issues. He had thousands and thousands of us working day and night for him. He looked like a decent person, too. And what did he do? He threw it all away, condemning America to another 4 years under Obama (who later acknowledged he was already packing up his stuff to move out of the White House!). Romney had that election in hand and then folded like a cheap umbrella.

The only evident conclusion is that Romney sold out, probably quite literally. (And in the process, sold all of us out, too, imho.)

And then came Trump, who did not sell out and who did not collapse. But, who won.

Ever since, Romney has acted not only like a sore loser, but like a complete donkey — so jealous of PDJT Romney’s face is almost bright green with envy.

Dear Utah friends, please try to get Senator Romney back under your control. He’s behaving like McShame or Flake of Arizona, or worse. He’s a real embarrassment to Utah. Its supposed to be about representing Utah and defending the US Constitution. The US Constitution provides an impeachment process where the House, as the prosecution, brings the charges and the evidence and the Senate, as the jury hears and decides them. The Senate does NOT “make the House’s case!”

Best,
fhc
