Sen. Mitt Romney said Monday it's "increasingly likely" there will be enough Republican senators to vote in favor of calling witnesses in President Donald Trump's Senate trial to compel their testimony after major revelations from a soon-to-be released book from former national security adviser John Bolton.
"I think, with the story that came out yesterday, it's increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton," the Republican senator from Utah told reporters in brief comments. He said he hasn't fully made up his mind on calling witnesses, but what Bolton has to say is "relevant" and "therefore I'd like to hear it."
"I think it's increasingly likely that other Republicans will join those of us who think we should hear from John Bolton," Romney said. "I've spoken with others who've opined upon this as well."
At least four Republicans would need to vote alongside all Democratic senators in order to secure new testimony, which could lengthen the trial.

Do the “good people” who voted for him in Utah really want a traitor? What if next time he betrays them instead?
That’s the trouble with dishonest associates. You never know.
In the 1960s J.Edgar Hoover, Mayor Daly of Chicago, or Lyndon B.Johnson would have had the blackmail pressure over the red line by now. Pelosi is the closest thing to those hardline bosses. Like that Congresswoman vacillating and then overnight staying on Pelosi’s side. So much nicer to be alive and breathing.
Romney playing for favor from the Demonrats. He IS essentially a Demonrat.
Dear Susan and Mitt,
You MAY need some support from lib leaning moderates to win. But you DEFINITELY need support from Republicans to win. Witness away!! It can be one of your lasting memories of your FORMER career as a Senator.
Bon Voyage!!
The article mentioned that they haven’t verified anything regarding the nyt hit piece.
Speaking of rumors, I heard from someone that Bishop Willard may have a home in Hildale, Utah.
At least it is NOT “increasingly likely” that Mitt will vote to hear from Dem witnesses and not from Trump’s witnesses.
Because? it was a 100% certainly.
Better yet, he could wait for Bolton’s book to be published.
Does Mitt think his treasonous behavior will endear him to GOP and conservative voters if/when he runs for President again? I can’t understand his motives; nothing ma kes sense.
And, you can bet, the same Republicans will vote not to allow Trump’s witnesses.
There is no smoking gun. Trump is empowered to conduct foreign policy. Concerns about Ukraine corruption involving Biden would be a legitimate reason to investigate. A potential investigation certainly should have put the brakes on releasing aid until further notice.
Ties to Soros?????
Shear ineptness and stupidity of the GOP Senate in full display today. They will cave in on voting for witnesses, led by the weasel Romney who runs the GOP Senate. McConnell is too scared to spank Romney’s ass. Thanks Utah for electing Pierre. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Knew this was coming, only wondering what form it would take. Oh, the predictable righteous outrage.
He is part of the take
Ever stop to think team Trump May have leaked it to flush out leakers (Vindman) or possibly force witnesses so Biden and son can be put on the hot seat? Rest assured, everything is not as it appears.
“In his August 2019 discussion with Mr. Bolton, the president appeared focused on the theories Mr. Giuliani had shared with him, replying to Mr. Bolton’s question that he preferred sending no assistance to Ukraine until officials had turned over all materials they had about the Russian investigation that related Mr. Biden and supporters of Mrs. Clinton in Ukraine.” - NYT
So..this is the bombshell. I see at least two problems with this:
1. Trump *preferred* sending no aid until the Ukraine turned over materials. That is not the same as ordering it withheld.
2. This happened in August 2019, after the infamous phone call with Zhelensky. This conversation in no way implies that Trump was pressuring Zhelensky on the July 25th call. Trump may have “preferred” this arrangement all along, but it doesn’t mean that he acted on this preference to leverage Zhelensky; read the transcript.
Just as I would prefer to not pay my taxes on April 15th.
“Ties to Soros?????”
Very possible. Maybe Soros backed him to be our Trojan horse.
Romney being a dick, as usual
