Washington Post journalist is suspended after tweeting a link to a 2016 story about Kobe Bryant's rape case just hours after he died in helicopter crash

Washington Post journalist has been suspended by the newspaper after she tweeted a link on Sunday to a years-old story about the Kobe Bryant rape case just hours after the basketball legend and his daughter were killed in a helicopter crash.

Felicia Sonmez, who covers national politics for the Post, took to Twitter shortly after the world learned of Bryant’s death along with eight others aboard his private helicopter which crashed outside of Los Angeles.

She posted a link to an April 2016 story from the news site The Daily Beast which carried the headline: ‘Kobe Bryant’s Disturbing Rape Case: The DNA Evidence, the Accuser’s Story, and the Half-Confession.’

The tweet generated hundreds of shares and thousands of likes as well as many comments.

Sonmez says she has received death threats after posting the tweets.

In follow-up tweets, Sonmez wrote: ‘Well, THAT was eye-opening.

Bryant was arrested and charged with sexual assault and false imprisonment after a 19-year-old woman alleged he raped her in a local hotel room

‘To the 10,000 people (literally) who have commented and emailed me with abuse and death threats, please take a moment and read the story - which was written 3+ years ago, and not by me.

‘Any public figure is worth remembering in their totality even if that public figure is beloved and that totality unsettling.’

Sonmez continued: ‘That folks are responding with rage and threats toward me (someone who didn’t even write the piece but found it well-reported) speaks volumes about the pressure people come under to stay silent in these cases.’

Very few...if any of us know what is really in his heart. His “becoming a Christian” could be a ruse to promote his post Bb life....yeah...he was a man...sure he had evil thoughts...being popular and rich probably allowed him to take liberties with “fans”...
Bottom line...his copter went down...9 are dead(i believe). He is one of them.
Question for the copter pilots...if one uses a copter alot...how long before refurbishment? Did Kobes chopper exceed the limits? Should he have gone up in the fog as it was? RIP for all victims of motorized vehicle “accidents”

How do you know Bryant never confessed the sin you accuse him of?

Because he never owned up to what he did. Instead, he and his lawyers tried to destroy her, and neither he nor they ever apologized for leaking her name and medical tests to multiple media outlets (which is a crime).

The same way Adam Schiff knows that Trump is guilty?

You must be joking. I won’t waste my breath trying to explain the differences to you.

How much sympathy have you shown here for the alleged victim of a violent rape?

The truth hurts.

Many below his wealth and celebrity would never be accused.

Oh, so his alleged rape victim was just a “gold digger” - is that what you are saying?

And you have the audacity to accuse others?

I don’t think you even know any of the specifics in this case.

“It is a tragedy. His 13 year old daughter died, as did others. Their lives were just as precious as his was.”

As were the unknown names of the THOUSANDS that also died that day.

THEY, couldn’t play NBA basketball.

How many actually KNEW Kobe Bryant?

Define “knew”.

Okay, watched him play basketball on TV. Saw him on ESPN, and yes read about him in the tabloid news about his adultery.

I understand he found Jesus and Jesus turned Kobe’s life around. GREAT! We should celebrate that he is likely in heaven right now. Hallelujah! (I’m serious)

But, I am so SICK of “celebrities” (in general) that I could PUKE!

Kobe is no hero. He was just a sinner like the rest of us. He deserves no more respect than his average Joe fans or the rest of us.

I’m sorry he died, I’m sorry for all the OTHER PEOPLE on the helicopter. I’m sorry for his family and the families of the others. I’m sorry for all the babies that were murdered on the same day. I’m sorry for all the people killed by drunk drivers that day and the victims families.

So, while we are all “sorry”, let’s keep it in perspective, shall we?

Thanks again. Flying in those weather conditions may have ended the lives of some good people.

Still waiting to hear what if anything will happen to the MSNBC reporterette who said LA N*ggers....er Lakers last night on the air.

That was CRAZY! So far, it seems that because she was from an Hate Trump network, they all get a pass. Imagine if it was a Fox News reporter. Fox studios might be burning as we speak.

”Found Jesus” is a term usually associated with evangelicals. I read he became more serious about his Catholic faith. I did not read that he became an evangelical Christian. If you know more, please let me know. Thanks.

I mean look at people the last 24 hours moaning an crying like Kobe was Jesus himself. I saw pics of grown men who do not even know Kobe crying like babies. Jeesh folks get a life.

________

Yes. It truly is a bit gross.

I'm 73 years old and a lifetime Pittsburgher .

I vividly remember when the Pirates' Roberto Clemente's plane went down on Dec. 31, 1972.

I was a serious baseball fan and even played the game for money for a time.

Nevertheless, I remember that terrible morning shedding tears for Roberto ...... because HE TRULY WAS a good man ..... and never raped a woman like the "revered" K.B..

It seems pretty clear he forced himself on the woman. Her blood was on his t-shirt, she had dozens of small vaginal injuries. She went immediately to the hospital, so it’s not something she thought up years later.

She dropped the criminal case in exchange for an apology, after being told that a he-said, she-said with a multi-millionaire who had thousands of fans was not going to go well for her.

She later settled for an undisclosed monetary payment (rumored to be around 1.5 million) in the civil suit.

David French, Trump-hater, constant scold about how we can’t ignore people’s bad character even if they save us from Hillary Clinton, was scolding people this morning for having the audacity to talk about Kobe’s lack of character in raping a woman — because it turns out David French apparently really likes Kobe.

People make mistakes.

Raping someone is not a "mistake." It devastates the women and her family - sometimes for generations. I guess we're all supposed to sentimentally weep for the POS because he played ball... or something.

Fk "Kobe" and idiot American who sports/entertainment hero worship.

Yes, she worked at the hotel. She was helping him check in. He admits having sex with her, claimed he thought it was consensual. He had her blood on his t-shirt, and she had multiple abrasions and vaginal tears. This is not “normal” for most consensual encounters.

And she immediately went to the hospital to be checked out, so this isn’t something she came up with later.

Bro there’s no sense in posting the article about the rape.

Oh look - Forum Imbecile doesn't think we should mention KObe-the-S**tbag's rape.

As always, Forum Imbecile has to jump into the beginning of every thread, and bring our collective IQ down at LEAST few dozen points.

No one among us is sin free

There are sins, and there are crimes, and what I'm learning is that to men, raping a woman is more of a "oh, you naughty thing" than anything serious. Look, you feel how you want to feel. But my observation stands. When Roman Polanski dies, and the liberal left starts slavering over what an artist he was, and how much he gave, and how rape was just a little "sin" of his that we mustn't much mind, I don't want to hear male Freepers all come out with chest-pounding, because clearly it's not sincere.

Not sure where you get that I worship anyone or anything.

Can you be more of an asshole to people you don’t know, or who you ever met?

Obviously you are already sheltering in place because speaking like that to another’s face would get you hit in the real world. Go back to watching Hallmark. That’s as close to heaven as you will ever get.
