It is time for Constitutionally law-abiding people to get armed and start carrying.
A well-armed, law-abiding citizenry keeps crime at bay much better than a demoralized police force who grows tired of making arrests only to see the perps be released without bail and without a judges ability to remand them to being held based on danger to the community or the criminal's flight risk.
Most armed citizens that use their gun for protection never even fire the weapon. The mere brandishing of it before the evildoer is usually enough to incentivize the criminal to stop his activity and to flee the scene.

Why pull over for somebody who's obviously agitated? It's not escalation, but it isn't smart either.
Just looking for information, what were the circumstances of the trespassing?
I’d never pull over for ‘some guy’ who gets angry with me, until I hit the boundary of my own property.
On the other hand, if he’s angry for some reason and I get stuck in traffic with him behind me and he gets out and comes toward me with a tire iron - all bets are off.
Concealed carry currently means visually undetectable.
If the weapon “prints” (shows as a lump under clothes) it is not considered concealed.
If open carry is ok’ed nationwide, then “printing” would not be a problem
Right! Of course it's best to avoid the situation in the first place.
I was setting up a situation in which brandishing might be the best choice, just to ask the question.
If they turn and run it certainly doesnt mean theyre disengaging. They can just as easily be running for cover to continue the fight to their advantage or secure a hidden weapon or... Shooting them in the case of flight doesnt mean you lose in court. You lose in court because you hired a second rate lawyer.
Again, some locations are more forgiving of ‘printing’. Others, not so much. Kind of why the ‘hole’ infringed thing POs a lot of folks. Permission for a guaranteed right?
My friend was being passed, then they would slow down, he would pass and they would ride his bumper then pass and slow down again. Cutting in too close when passing him. I wasn’t there so I don’t know what the tipping point finally was.
Incidents such as this are why I have a dashcam and a hand-held Go-Pro. Every single time I’ve stuck the Go-Pro out the window to record somebody doing something stupid behind me, they’ve backed right off. It could be a plastic box on a stick, but they don’t know that - and they wise up right quick.
The House will get right on that Im sure.
Good idea. I've held up my phone like I was taking a video. They've backed off every time.
Thank you.
Hanson is trying to make something of nothing, IMHO.
Yes, you pull it out if you are justified in using it.
But something like 19 times out of 20, when the opposition sees you have a firearm, it is sufficient to defuse the situation.
It does vary by state.
In Arizona, we passed a "defensive display" statute, specifically to prevent prosecution when a person was showing another they were armed.
It is one of the reasons open carry is positive. You are already showing you are armed. You do not have to "brandish"."Brandish" is an imprecise term, generally not used in the law. To give a counter example to Hanson.
A homeless man approaches you. He pulls out a knife.
You order him to stop.
He doesn't.
You draw your gun, as he sees it, he drops the knife and runs.
This is a pretty common situation, yet according to Hanson, you screwed up because you did not shoot and kill the man before he dropped the knife.
Most defensive gun uses are not gunfights.
I can guarantee you that if open carry is OK, a weapon which "prints" is going to be charged as a concealed weapon.
If you are legal for concealed carry then you are OK, if not you are in trouble.
This is a common law offense. State v. Dawson, 272 N.C. 535, 541-42 (1968); State v. Huntly, 25 N.C. 418, 418 (1843); State v. Staten, 32 N.C. App. 495, 496-97 (1977) (citing Dawson).
Usually cited during a fray, but can be used as a BS charge just "ready made" to a power tripping LEO
The problem with "feelings" is some timid souls would go apoplectic if they suffered a ghost fart.
I think the word “brandish” can have several connotations - most consider brandishing to be pulling it out and waving it around for no pertinent reason - most of us would say that if being threatened and sensing it is going south, taking gun in hand and allowing the threat to see it may be a deterrent and prevent the need to take a life.
I was at the RVA 2A rally on Monday and it was amazing how polite everyone was when all are heavily armed.
IMO, pulling a gun in a tense situation shows intent to use it by many, of which some may panic and the bad guy might start to fire, if armed.
In my case if some road rage guy attempts to pull me over, I would avoid that at all costs for it shows he’s purposely confrontational and 911 would be called, as there’s likely enough time for a cop to get there if you just keep driving.
Agreed, FRiend. Please see my post 25.
