The deadly animal virus epidemic spreading globally may have originated in a Wuhan laboratory linked to China’s covert biological weapons program, according to an Israeli biological warfare expert.
Radio Free Asia this week rebroadcast a local Wuhan television report from 2015 showing China’s most advanced virus research laboratory known the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Radio Free Asia reported.
The laboratory is the only declared site in China capable of working with deadly viruses.
Dany Shoham, a former Israeli military intelligence officer who has studied Chinese bio warfare, said the institute is linked to Beijing’s covert biological weapons program.
“Certain laboratories in the institute have probably been engaged, in terms of research and development, in Chinese [biological weapons], at least collaterally, yet not as a principal facility of the Chinese BW alignment,” Mr. Shoham told The Washington Times.
Work on biological weapons is conducted as part of a dual civilian-military research and is “definitely covert,” he said in an email.
Mr. Shoham holds a doctorate in medical microbiology. From 1970 to 1991 he was a senior analyst with Israeli military intelligence for biological and chemical warfare in the Middle East and worldwide, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Nah I saw an article the had British scientists predicting that.
But if they don’t know more than we know, it could be worse.
I expect the Chinese diaspora and trade links are thin on the ground in those countries.
Likely those countries will not let anyone in who has been to China. I read that North Korea will not allow them and that Mexico will not allow its citizens who have been to Wuhan to return to Mexico. They were told to shelter in place.

I have no particular concern what a country’s people find tasty, even if it’s quite odd to me.
But it seems rats and bats and snakes are transmitters of some pretty devastating viruses.

I trust our CDC and government in general only half the time.
I trust Trump to tell us the truth almost all the time (sometimes a lie may have a valid reason) and maybe a few senators and house members.
But that’s about it.
That (Wuhan has TWO bio-warfare labs) is not surprising.
Link of Chinese researcher(s) banned from top bio-safety lab, I believe, level-4, in Canada (July 2019 news), (surprise, coronavirus), is also not surprising.
What the Chinese did (ahem)research(ahem) since then and the current coronavirus outbreak only leads to much speculation.
Xi’s position would be precarious, if it happens that ChiComm actively suppress the severity of the accidental leak of the virus to the public, thinking their totalitarian gubmint can contain the outbreak.
With crisis/crises at home and abroard (not just in Hong Kong), it shapes out to be a perfect storm for Xi and ChiComm. We will see brutal suppression is in the near future.
I think it is 4% mortality rate as reported by WHO, but still relying on Chinese figures. However, I don’t think it is the mortality rate that is so scary as the fact that 25% of cases needed hospital care, sometimes intensive care. (Again relying on Chinese figures.) That is enough to cause a major disruption of health care in any developed country.
Here is a thought.
China has been investing heavily in Africa. What are the odds that the Chinese have spread this to Africa and that Africa doesn’t have the resources to even begin to test for it?

That is a possibility since testing for the virus is not available in most first world labs and certainly not in 3rd world countries. - Tom

Testing for other respiratory pathogens by the provider should be done as part of the initial evaluation and should not delay specimen shipping to CDC.
Chinese pride themselves on eating horrible, nasty creatures.
Yeah, the CDC said they have developed tests and will soon start sharing them with major cities and foreign governments.
I hope the tests are easily reproducible.

Only China would know this, and I can think of many reasons why they would lie about it, or not even know for sure.
In this day and age I would hope a hospital lab could take a picture of the isolated virus, or photos of blood work etc. and send it to the CDC immediately electronically to expedite things. -Tom
