Trump vows to 'save' Social Security, not cut it
Washington Times ^ | January 23, 2020 | Dave Boyer

President Trump said on Thursday that he’ll “save” Social Security, a day after he said he is open to reviewing entitlement spending in a second term.

“Democrats are going to destroy your Social Security. I have totally left it alone, as promised, and will save it!” Mr. Trump tweeted aboard Air Force One on his way to the Republican National Committee’s winter meetings at his Doral golf resort in Florida.

In the Democratic primary, Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont is accusing former Vice President Joseph R. Biden of being open to cuts in Social Security, a charge that Mr. Biden rejects.

Trump is a very very good excellent businessman. He’ll find a way...........unlike Uniparty politicians who can’t find their ass with both hands.

Pick a day when there are no new recipients of benefits.

Those already having paid into it, upon retirement, get out an amount based on what they put in.

Fine, maintain the COLA increases.

Shortfall? Fund with general taxes. The remaining recipients will die off eventually.

Program gone.

Still too expensive?

Cut the COLA.

Still too expensive?

Raise the retirement age.

Still too expensive?

Do a “negative COLA”.

I remember reading about when Bush wanted SS recipients to be able to invest 10% of the SS payment in a government approved stocks and bonds or something to help in receiving a bit more and the Demiranians went all ballistic over it saying Bush wanted to end SS.

Start with lowering the pay out to civil service retirees and congress critters and stop all welfare benefits to illegals while getting rid of the anchor baby loophole.3

A ponzi scheme only ends one way, with someone holding the bag.

Ergo, it will never get ‘fixed’, at least not voluntarily.

Eff all of that. Put the GD money back into it they have pilfered out of it the past 50 plus years.

Then we can talk about those fixes.

...and it KILLED the Republicans in 2006 (along with Amnesty). With that election, the Dems took over both houses of Congress, and with that, 2 years later, they had the 60 Senate votes they needed to pass Obamacare.

People call Trump, but Trump is NOT about to commit political suicide like Bush Jr. did, just to try to fix SS. Trump will work on it, but ONLY if the Democrats join him.

When I heard the 20 second news item on the radio I thought no, no, no President Trump. Don't say a word about Soc.Sec. except to sincerely say over and over: "I insist and promise I will not cut your benefits."

That would be political suicide if word got out he could cut it.

A national talk radio host asked "What gives out there? How did you lose your district's House seat to the Dems?" Reply:"Oh, they had saturation advertising here that voting GOP meant pre-exiting conditions would be deleted from medical plan coverage." Host: "Oh, no" Caller: "Yeah, they had ads all day and night and we lost that seat."

And if the Demiranians don’t side with him and his measures fail they’ll blame him anyway.

I think Amnesty and the constant coverage of the mishandling of the war in Iraq and American death toll did more than any talk of Social Security reform. Millenials and Zoomers don’t even believe they will receive Social Security. Any changes to SS probably won’t upset them. A good percentage will approve or noncommittal.

Social Security in its present form is a Ponzi scheme that is running out of new entrants. More Boomers becoming eligible for SS than younger people supporting them = financial disaster. So unless Trump figures out a way to conjure up millions of young workers out of thin air SS is doomed.

Your kids might like you....but the M/Z crowd hate you (and me.). They won’t approve of any SS changes.

I had felt that maybe you could establish a cutoff date for those with preexisting conditions. You would not be penalized for having a preexisting condition if you signed up prior to a certain deadline. Then everyone after the deadline would have to buy insurance before they get sick. But those before the deadline you wouldn’t be able to drop their insurance for another insurance and be covered. I suppose it wouldn’t work and probably cost Republicans votes.
