Starting this month, you might find a new surcharge tacked onto the bottom of your restaurant bill.

Try the pupu platter...
Some legal beagle should sue, requesting an audit to see if the “climate change charge” is separated in the restaurant’s accounting and contributed to the cause.
Otherwise, it’s just like an Al Gore mystery service fee tacked onto your phone or cable bill.
As these restaurants start going out of business wondering why.
Agree. Another reason to stay out of California.
Waiter: “with surcharges and tip, your bill comes out to $23.00.”
Customer: “But all I had was a glass of water.”
When the money is collected, where does it go?
The state government which cant even keep crap off the streets?
Lemme guess... they’ll pocket the money.
The “{Michael} Savage Surcharge”, LOL.
Waiter: with surcharges and tip, your bill comes out to $23.00.
Customer: But all I had was a glass of water.
Waiter: Sorry, that will be $23.86.
Sure they will.
Of course the customer can levy a surcharge on the restaurant by reducing the tip by the amount of the restaurant’s surcharges.
I was viewing CNBC this morning and a fund manager from San Francisco stated that since Grrreta Thunberg was born, that 62% of global CO2 emissions were produced by China, 18% by India. That's 80% of all CO2 emissions by two countries that Grrreta never mentions.
Yeah, for bean burrito.
That’s exactly what I would do and that’s coming from someone who worked in the service industry for a number of years as a youngster. Surcharge me for BS, it comes right out of the tip. I’ll even do the exact math so it’s perfect.
If they add surcharges like the one mentioned, what makes the restaurant think there would even BE a tip? The only tip forthcoming should be in the form of a reminder that the patron would not be returning.
I would stay my ass out of those that did that. Let them have the privilege of going out of business.
Our county added a “meals” tax ... I go to restaurants just over the county line to avoid it almost all the time. Once in a blue moon I have to eat out at a place with the meals tax - I don’t take it out on the wait staff, but internally ‘gripe’ when I see the “add ons” (taxes) to food that is already expensive. Because of the expense & often poor quality of food/preparation & iffy service, 99% of the time I cook/eat at home ... I can do poor food & bad service myself for a lot cheaper than eating out.
What you do is: on the line where it says “Tip” you write in exactly what you’re being charged then add a minus sign and total the bill out as “Zero” - problem solved and a free meal.
“Special extra charge if you order the burrito?”
Cultural culinary appropriation surcharge.
Oh Goody
Another reason to avoid California
