I think Mitch is giving them a lot of rope so they can choke when all is said and done.

Chances of witnesses being called later - the odds are against it.I agree and here's a hypothetical situation to illustrate one reason why not.
When the proper time comes, by the rules, to request witnesses suppose the Dems ask for Bolton. Then Bolton has to be deposed privately. Every Senator will hear or read the deposition. Then they vote whether to allow Bolton as a witness.
Suppose Bolton's deposition is poison to the Dems. A party line vote could vote 'yes' to allow him to testify. The Dems couldn't complain, they requested him.
I don't think the Dems would take the chance. Once they request a witness there's no going back if McConnell and the Republicans agree to that process.

Sekulow in response to Schumer latest grandstand amendment:
Reserving our objections as it relates to hearsay, which is what the record primarily consists of.
He also slammed Schiff for the partisan hack he is..

I don't think it would hurt to occasionally mention the necessity to investigate corruption in any nation receiving our aid as a condition for spending taxpayer money...and to throw in the possibility that a senior American politician's family member might be enriching himself due to his father's position. These things should be kept fresh in the public's mind.
McConnell has delivered on every vote and he deserves credit for that. It is, nevertheless, painful to watch Schiff and his friends continue to back fit the administration's actions into the political crime of the century. It's a frame up. LOL, Schiff just projected the the cause of the late night proceedings onto thr GOP.

I think that was the Clinton procedure. Private depositions only. Am I right?

There haven’t been any votes of note yet. The Dems surely did not expect the GOP to vote with them while the they abused the process today. I assume the Senate rules will allow all these amendments to be voted on again at a later time.

This is like the prelims of boxing fight card. The GOP will never agree to any Schumer amendment tonight. The real fight won’t start until the rules are adopted.
