FORT BRAGG, N.C. A salute rained down on the plane carrying Staff Sgt. Ian Paul McLaughlin as it arrived at Fort Bragg.
McLaughlin returned home to his family but in the most heartbreaking way.
A squad leader assigned to 82nd Airborne Division, McLaughlin was killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while conducting combat operations on Jan. 11.
Pfc. Miguel Angel Villalon, who was a combat engineer on his first deployment, was also killed.

I ran across this while watching a video about Safety for those going to Richmond ,VA Monday.
I also noticed that Kallitta Air was the transport carrier. (I will speculate at no charge.)
Kalitta Air is an American owned, American operated cargo and charter airline. Founder and owner of the company is a famous drag racer, first NHRA driver to hit 200mph in the quarter in an official event.
Yes, I knew that. What I didnt know was just how big Kallitta Air is.
The Fleet Kalitta Air LLC
Search domain www.kalittaair.com/fleet/https://www.kalittaair.com/fleet/
We operate an all-freighter fleet of B747-400’s and B767-300ER’s with an acquisition plan in place to rapidly expand our entire fleet. Our fleet of all Boeing freighters are fully certified Cat II and III approaches to go to the lowest of visibility weather minimums, and are Stage III noise compliant.
Ping for more fallen Warriors, may They Rest in Peace..
Yeah, Kalitta is as close as you can get to a private Military Airlift Command available on short notice. They also fly regularly scheduled international runs, and the US government is just one of a number of governments with long term charter agreements.
Ping Your Lists Please.
RIP, Brothers.
Staff Sgt. Ian Paul McLaughlin of Virginia and Pfc. Miguel Angel Villalon of Illinois were killed (by an IED) while conducting combat operations on Saturday in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
I wonder if this was an Iranian provided munition, and whether they directed its use?
Heartbreaking. With three in the military a sobering moment.
Good catch on the air carrier.
Kallitta is a cool guy.
RIP and Heart felt condolences to the families. Treasures lost. 82nd Airbornes assets have been in the lines for a long time. GOD Bless all who serve the USA.
Why the heck are we still in Afghanistan?
POTUS should order the JCS to attend every KIA repatriation ceremony at Dover AFB until further notice.
Could be but theres no shortage of other items laying around in the area.
I wish We would pull out ALL our Personnel from the sand pits and then turn the whole damned thing into Glass. Come back in 100 years or so and Bulldozer it back into sand and build a Resort.
Those idiots have been at war since they could hold a stick or a rock and they will never change...
I will add Your 3 to My Daily Prayers.
Please Thank Them for Their Service.
