Delbert Orr Africa, a member of the radical Philadelphia group MOVE, was reportedly released from a Pennsylvania prison Saturday, 42 years after he and eight other members were convicted of third-degree murder in a shootout that resulted in the death of a city police officer. Africa, 73, is the second to last of the nine convicted to be released or die in prison. The members maintain that Officer James Ramp was killed by a stray police bullet in the shootout, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Aren’t they the ones the cops matched for “Looney” when they blew up the block?
Wilson Goode is still with us.
No, they are the ones who the cops had really no good options for. The only way to silence the fortified pillbox on the roof of the roadhouse was with the explosive charge. The freaks had gasoline stored in it and it caught on fire.
They were hard-core communist revolutionaries who fired thousands of rounds at police in that gun battle. How would you have gotten them out? The cops did good here
I remember MOVE when I was in college at the time in Pennsylvania. Someone spray painted “Move Headquarters “ on the back door of our house as a joke. Was a big party as best I recall.
Did the MOVE folks become the “Black Israelites?” Just joking....
When someone dies while you are involved in a violent crime it doesnt matter if you pulled the trigger or not, even the guy waiting in the car in a robbery can be charged with some iteration of murder for instance.
These people should still be in jail.
I was traveling on business at the time it happened so may have missed some details.
But as I recall the cops went overboard and took out a LOT more real-estate than necessary even if you agree their tactic was sound.
I seem to recall deaths of folk not involved, lawsuits, and questions of just who has the authority to order the setting of bombs in such circumstances.
Appears that LE is very good at justifying extraordinary actions after the fact.
This was not the last time LE bombed or burned out a “Suspect/fugitive”.
*Philly ping*
That was some crazy shiite back in 1986. As detestable as they were dropping a bomb on them and burning down the block killing dozens of women and children was inexcusable
Of course Wilson Goode was black so no harm no foul
I was a junior in HS and we watched it LIVE. craziest thing ever
Copter hovered overhead. Dropped a bomb and boom ! Huge fire !
Whole city block in Osage avenue near Overbrook burned down.
Never ever seen anything like it but unfortunately WACO was even WORSE !!!
It was way worse. Something like 50 American men, women and children burned alive. When they could have simply arrested the principal when he went on his weekly grocery store trip. No one even lost their job let alone charged.
“... dropping a bomb on them and burning down the block killing dozens of women and children was inexcusable.”
Eleven people died after the bomb was dropped. Not dozens. And not dozens of women and children.
Here’s an old article with some surprising info on MOVE members: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1985/05/24/move-members-zeal-bewildered-loved-ones/7e1fcd35-4351-42d9-9f99-93ef6da1bb3c/
By the way, MOVE was originally a “Christian” movement. I’m not kidding. It was originally called the “Christian Movement for Life”.
MOVE was pure scum and fits right in with liberal American politics and agenda. This POS should have been kept in his prison cage. The left hated Rizzo and always conveniently forgets that the second major confrontation was by BLACK DNC ACTIVIST dummy Mayor Goode where he green lighted the State Police to bomb the house. No surprise that sleaze Eddie Rendell was D.A.
I wonder if that Campus lefty cause-célèbre Mumia Abu Jamal is next?
** Philly Metro Ping **
On the 1985 fire...MOVE was far from spotless. But when a City drops a canvas bag containing a bomb consisting of two sticks of Tovex TR2 with C-4 on citizens, and NOBODY goes to jail for the ensuing incineration of 61 homes and possessions, and 11 deaths, you know things are rotten in Denmark.

This was the Philadelphia Police’s version of “We had to destroy the village to save it.”
Not to be argumenative, but they should have been sent to Hell 42 years ago.
Bump
Hopefully some street justice will catch up to this POS.
