Sen. Ted Cruz (D-TX) tweeted his thoughts about President Trump's Senate impeachment trial and how he see the trial playing out in the Senate.
"I'm headed to the Senate floor," Cruz says in a video the senator tweeted out on Thursday. "The partisan impeachment we've seen is over."
On Thursday, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) and the Democrat's lead impeachment manager kicked off the impeachment trial by formally reading two article of impeachment the House passed against the president last month, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Chief Justice John Roberts was sworn in to preside over the Senate trial, and then all senators swore an oath to administer "impartial justice" and signed an oath book.
"We will then proceed to have to a fair trial," Cruz said, "to respect due process, unlike the House, to give the president a full and fair opportunity to defend himself, and then we'll decide this issue based on the constitutional standards for impeachment, which is high crimes and misdemeanors. The House articles don't meet that standard. They don't alledge any criminal conduct whatsoever, so at the end of this process, after a fair trial, the president will be acquitted and we will end this constitutional circus, this political farce that started in the House. This is the beginning of the end of the abuse of the Constitution."
The president retweeted Cruz's message and thanked the Texas senator for his "words of wisdom."
Words of wisdom. Thank you Ted! https://t.co/LRyAHS9VEL Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 17, 2020
The House is expected to present their case on Wednesday and Thursday this coming week, with the defense having Friday and Saturday to make their rebuttal.
What will the coup plotters try next after the “impeachment” farce is over?
What a pathetic circus by the integrity-free, seditious, traitorous DIMs and their hate-filled, blinded supporters. Truth on DIMs/leftists is like holy water on a vampire.
Townhall needs better editors. When did Cruz become a DemoRat?
What will the coup plotters try next after the impeachment farce is over?
Start all over with a new one?
Never ending eternal impeachment.
We will then proceed to have to a fair trial,” Cruz said......
Im afraid Senator Cruz has drunk the Kool-Aid.
Fair trial? A trial assumes that any of these baseless and worthless articles have any semblance of truth behind them. There is no need for a fair trial. Immediately vote to acquit and be done with this mess.
The Peachment Circus is now under new management.
They are going to face the music. It’s like in the movie “V for Vendetta”. “My turn!!”
LOL. Good catch. Although there are quite a few here at free republic who hate Cruz so much that they would consider him more a Democrat than a Republican.
Yes, a new investigation will begin as soon as this one ends.
Not if the House Democrats get properly punished in the 2020 elections. It's up to the voters to make this foolishness stop.
I hope so. Impeachment has been FABULOUS for my 401k.
But the semi-partisan impeachment will now go on for 3-6 more weeks.
This really is Cruz’s calling in life: walking from place to place babbling inanities.
#NeverEndingImpeachment
When the GOP retakes the House they should start the impeachment of the next Rat president that day.
He needs to proof read what he writes. That is embarrasing
The Pelosi Perp walk, liberal fascist march of the Unconstitutional Bill of Attainder posing as Articles of impeachment.
I saw a high speed version of the walk on Fox News channel, the morning show. It was a riot, to watch the walk done at high speed. Looked like Nazis doing the goose step!
Wake me when the Senate votes to dismiss the frivolous charges with prejudice.Until then, the (partisan) impeachment isnt over.
