The agent said she needed to pat down my braids. She pulled them behind my shoulders, laughed [and] said ‘giddy up!’ as she snapped my braids like reins,” Houska told her 32,000 Twitter followers. “My hair is part of my spirit. I am a Native woman. I am angry, humiliated. Your 'fun' hurt."

"My hair is part of my spirit"".

So why do you tie your spirit into knots?

I agree here. It was rude and perhaps racist. Okay.

Let’s move on.

Most Native Americans I deal with on a daily basis are drunks!

I hold no responsibility for their plight! Just another aggrieved victim group!

I have another take on this. It's humiliating enough to go thru the patdown, and to have the TSA agent make fun of you while doing it makes it worse.

That said, going public as a victim seeking a large payout is totally inappropriate response.

TSA should be disbanded regardless.

I don't understand the ignorance of people who work with the public. I'm going to guess he is a democrat. The woman probably is too. Isn't this a stalemate now? 🤷🏼‍♀️

The typical TSA worker previously had trouble holding down a job at a fast food place because the management expected them to be productive and be nice to the customers. Then they got hired by the government... and they could be both lazy and obnoxious.

Interesting, the Indian woman said she did NOT want the officer to get in trouble, but only for the TSA folks to know how she felt and to address the issue upfront.

The article made her sound reasonable, more reasonable than either the headline or photo caption.

This wasn’t very professional. I would have been really ticked if someone had done my wife that way.

It might be safe to say that most women don’t appreciate the phrase “giddy up” in any context.

Tara Houska, is a cutey.

BUT playing with her braids is a battery for which there is no justification or consent

Sure, I see women every day whose hair I am urged to play with.

But somehow I resist those urges or I would be behind bars.

And this TSA agent did something that is reserved for intimate contact of family or lovers. She crossed the line.

And the TSA should be punished for it as a deterrence. This was an assault and battery, as the statement made showed that intent.

It was not a search to which Tara consented.TSA gonna be paying some big bucks to a charitable 1st nations cause, and justifiably so.

Aw geez....!

Cue up the Atlanta Braves war chant with foam tomahawk chop followed by “Please Mister Custer” followed by “Running Bear” followed by “I’m an Indian too-oo-oo, a Sioux, a Sioux!” followed by Mel Brooks in a feather bonnet!!

Where do these Indians (I’m as much one for real as Lizzie Warren claimed to be) get this notion of possessing a heightened spirituality which us white-eyes can never know?

Send her a copy of “Pow Wow Chow”.

“Let’s move on”

Oh, you mean to the payout stage?

This was truly reprehensible and disgusting behavior...IF it happened.

A reprimand of the employee seems entirely appropriate. The behavior was inappropriate. It would have been handled better by complaining to the guy's supervisor rather than going public.
