RE: Germany agrees plan to phase out coal power by 2038
I notice that all these green energy initiatives always have a “by” date.
All cars electric by XXXX
All houses and buildings solar by XXXX
etc. etc.
1) How the heck do they know that this technology is feasible and competitive vs. our current energy sources by XXXX ?
2) Given that a lot of these green energy “experts” tell us that we have but 12 years until environmental armageddon is upon us ( See: AOC, Greta Thunberg ), isn’t 2038 too late? Why not NOW if the need is urgent?
The government will draft a law this month for exiting from coal, which it hopes to get passed by parliament in mid-2020.
Coal currently powers about one-third of Germany's electricity, and more than half of that relies on burning lignite. Germany is the world's biggest lignite producer.

People are stupid. The reason they want coal gone is it gives people a better shot at financial freedom...independence from the government. If this were not true, then the hollywood moguls and lefty billionaires would shelve their jets in principle.

Russia will buy the coal from Germany, and then just sell the electricity back to them at a rate higher than if Germany just did it in the first place?

Unless China, Russia and India make a genuine effort to reduce fossil fuel consumption, the whole environmental movement is futile.
Well, I see no problem with eliminating coal if there is adequate natural gas or nuclear replacement.
