Fearing a repeat of the deadly march by white nationalists in Charlottesville in 2017, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam on Wednesday declared a state of emergency and temporarily banned people from carrying guns and other weapons on the grounds of the state Capitol, where thousands of gun rights activists are expected to rally next week against stricter gun control laws.
Northam said he made the call after hearing "credible intelligence" from law enforcement that armed militias and hate groups, some from outside Virginia, planned to disrupt the event. He said the threats of violence, picked up on the internet and on dark web channels by state intelligence analysts, included "conversations fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theories" similar to talk that preceded the "Unite the Right" march in August 2017, at which white nationalists clashed with counterprotesters, one of whom was killed when a man drove into a crowd.
"They are not coming to peacefully protest. They are coming to cause intimidation and to cause harm," Northam, a Democrat, said at a news conference.

As far as I know, no one was harmed by a gun.
If I had someone in VA to stay with, I’d drive down and take part in the rally.
Being from Chicago, I can tell anyone what happens when guns are banned and carry is strictly limited or eliminated altogether.
1. Gun rights activists are extremists.
2. Extremists must be disarmed.

Everyone who owns a dodge charger should show up at his house.
The governor is testing the waters.
I predict that there will be massive non-compliance, but the ban will not be enforced.
You Virginians have a real issue on your hands.
So they need to take up a collection and quickly build a concrete wall around the Square. Then fill it with water.
Northam unwittingly doing his utmost to help Trump win VA this time around.
We here in N.J. have exactly the same problem as people in Illinois. We in rural areas live by the gun laws of the rest of the state.
We here in Free Vermont choose not to live by the unconstitutional gun laws passed by flatlander transplants who violated their oaths.
I wonder how many of these threats were actually by state actors seeking to provide a justification for these security measures.
