Hi!
I was there in 1983 with a platoon of MP's, augmenting the Border Patrol when Castro turned all the Marielitas loose.
They were nothing less than a bunch of murderers, rapists and nut jobs that Castro threw on us and there was nowhere else to put them.
One big mess!
To call them "refugees" is akin to calling an African Savanna lion a cuddly kitty-kat.
But, in spite of it all, it was a good duty, the local folks were wonderful and the permanent party at Chaffee were great folks.
I just don't want to do it again.

A lot has changed since the electric clock was invented in the 1840s. We now keep time on smart watches, smart phones, and laptops. The entire pace of life seems faster—with even our “leisurely” walking speeding up. This is especially true in cities and can have a negative effect on health, scholars say. “We’re just moving faster and faster and getting back to people as quickly as we can,” Professor Richard Wiseman observed. “That’s driving us to think everything has to happen now.”
Moses, the writer of one of the oldest of the Bible’s psalms, reflected on time. He reminds us that God controls life’s pace. “A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night,” he wrote (Psalm 90:4).
The secret to time management, therefore, isn’t to go faster or slower. It’s to abide in God, spending more time with Him. Then we get in step with each other, but first with Him—the One who formed us (139:13) and knows our purpose and plans (v. 16).
Our time on earth won’t last forever. Yet we can manage it wisely, not by watching the clock, but by giving each day to God. As Moses said, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (90:12). Then, with God we’ll always be on time, now and forever.
What’s your pace in life? How could you spend more time with God, getting in step with Him?
Gracious God, when we fall out of step with You, draw us closer to abide in You.

Glad the cold is up there! LOL
It was pretty nice here today, though cloudy. Now the front that came through here Sat. is coming back up as a warm front. I got home from a meeting a short time ago and the first batch of rain hit. More to come through the night and tomorrow.
Are they doing OK in the new place?
I first went to Ft. Chaffee AR as an ROTC cadet at Oklahoma State in 1975. I was part of a group of volunteers who went to be trained as an indigenous force by the 12th Special Forces Grp (USAR) for their weekend drill. The Ft. Chaffee training was on demolitions and communications. The demo was all live stuff & we got to use C-4, det cord, TNT, etc. Perhaps the most fun I ever had with my clothes on — we blowed stuff up real good!!
My next trips to Ft. Chaffee were as an officer in an OK ARNG artillery battalion for artillery live fire on the Potato Hill range. We stayed in the old WW2 officer barracks/BOQ which was certainly a step back in time. I understand all the old WW2 barracks are gone now.
My most interesting trip there was as a Fire Support Team chief attached to an infantry unit as part of a combined arms live fire demonstration. We went in aboard UH-1 Huey helicopters over the range at a low level. The number of deer on Ft. Chaffee was impressive from that vantage point.
Sometimes when it rains, a squirrel sits on the ledge of my bedroom window for shelter. This was Roxy's first introduction to it and she reeeeeeeeeally wanted that squirrel! LOL

It’s definitely nice to have a lot of windows. The other house doesn’t have all that many and it was darker than this one inside. Also no trees close to the house. Makes for nice views as well as more light.
And entertainment when that squirrel shows up in the window. LOL Sometimes one or two will hang out on the front porch, which is outside the windows the cats were sunning in.
How are things down your way? It was comfy here today but now we’re getting wet. Again. Had some rain, along with a little lightning, a couple of hours ago and more is building up and closing in now. I tried huffing and puffing to blow it your way but no luck.
