During President Donald Trumps interview with Fox News Laura Ingraham on Friday, the president spoke about his positive relationship with Saudi Arabia, including how the country is paying to use American troops. Conservative Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.), who until recently was a Republican, responded to Trumps remarks in a tweet, saying, He sells troops.
Saudi Arabia is paying us for [our troops]. We have a very good relationship with Saudi Arabia, Trump said. I said, listen, youre a very rich country. You want more troops? Im going to send them to you, but youve got to pay us. Theyre paying us. Theyve already deposited $1 billion in the bank.
When Bush was Pres. the dems said they were bribed by Saudis to protect that country. For sure the Clintons got’a cut of protection money.
Nicely done. SA has too much wealth to get welfare from us. They do not serve alongside us in battles... Nice agreement.
If the EU continues to support hostile Anti American countries, they should pay as well.
A difference might also be that in Europe we are defending allies with democratic values as opposed to the Saudis with medieval values. Will we overlook those values because the Saudis pay us or because of geographical, petroleum and geopolitical realities?
Yes, they do. But quarters (think housing allowance) pay is deducted, so it’s a wash.
Too much dope. I mean who still reads this rag??
Then the question becomes since Saudi Arabia is paying for them then can we bring them home? They bought their services, doesn't that mean they control what's done with them?
Dems are confused with how bsuiness works - since they only know govt hand outs or their own shady deals to enrich themselves.
At least Trump is getting more income for the USA when other countries are wanting our troops to come help them.
If they buy it then they own it.
Unfortunately yes we have to overlook some moral values. The world is like a big Risk game and it’s better if we win.
Saudi Arabia should take care of themselves. Like he said, they are a rich country. Let the shieks build their own army.
They are not an ally but were enablers for the destruction of the WTC and killing 3000 citizens.
What gives the president the right to hire out our soldiers as mercs? Well, that is what we have been doing for decades, he just put the words to it.
This adds no protection to our shores.
A billion dollars would not cover a month of pay for equipment or boots.
But it is the American lives that the Europeans elite take for granted. Euros themselves don’t want to serve in the military and they get nervous whenever they sense our supply of warfighters who will die in their defense might be running short.
I’m not talking money here, I am talking American lives sacrificed in their stead.
No, world police. That is what our republic has morphed into.
*** Im pretty sure Troops in Saudi get imminent danger pay and family separation pay. ***
If one gets both, it is $350 a month according to DFAS.mil
I agree with you entirely that's why I said:
Trumps (sic) demands on Europe were long overdue.
If Trump can even be implausibly accused of undermining NATO, he finds himself assailed on all sides. If you think we should withdraw entirely from Europe, that is an entirely different argument and one which I will aggressively engage. I think Trump is trying to find a middle ground which commits the Europeans to risk their own troops by first assuring that they have their own troops.
That doesn’t sound at all like what he was saying in that quote. And agreed, it is roughly a continuance of policy before him.
Stopped reading right there!
They have been paying us since 1975. Modernization programs for their National Guard (a full time professional military force) and MODA, Ministry of Defense and Aviation. I was assigned to OPM-SANG during Desert Storm. We called it “Other People’s Money” and was the only place in 20 years that you said you needed something and it appeared, no questions asked.
Obama served them up for nothing at all. If they need to be there, the main beneficiary should at least pick up the cost. If they don't need to be there, they shouldn't be there.
(And if they don't, the Saudis can make a call to Blackwater/XE Services/Academi/Constellis Holdings/Triple Canopy, Inc.)
They ain't buying it, they are paying the rent, and they don't own a damn thing.
