Fears of Sanders win growing among Democratic establishment
Associated Press ^ | January 8, 2020 | Steve Peoples and Alexandra Jaffe

Increasingly alarmed that Bernie Sanders could become their party’s presidential nominee, establishment-minded Democrats are warning primary voters that the self-described democratic socialist would struggle to defeat President Donald Trump and hurt the party’s chances in premier House, Senate and governors’ races.

The urgent warnings come as Sanders shows new signs of strength on the ground in the first two states on the presidential primary calendar, Iowa and New Hampshire, backed by a dominant fundraising operation.

The Vermont senator has largely escaped close scrutiny over the last year as his rivals doubted the quirky 78-year-old’s ability to win the nomination. But less than a month before Iowa’s kickoff caucuses, the doubters are being forced to take Sanders seriously. […]

The increasingly vocal concerns are coming from a number of political veterans tied to the Obama administration and the 2020 field’s moderate wing, including those backing former Vice President Joe Biden, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet. …

When I read crap like this, I clearly see writers in the AP rooting for their own candidates in dem primary.

I won’t disagree with your thoughts in the main.

However when I look for someone for the party to insert as the designated loser of stature (no pun intended), Bloomberg seems likely.

S/B, "fears of sore loser Sanders soaking up millions of campaign contributions that they think should go to other candidates". Sanders needs to hire a food taster, because the Arkancide patrol is in his vicinity more than the Publishers Clearing House van.

I don’t see a billionaire accepting a “designated loser” position. Ego just won’t do it willingly.

This is a last chance for Bernie for anything. Being the nominee would be the greatest achievement he could hope for; losing against Trump would be acceptable (unbeatable and “evil”). He’d be an enthusiastic candidate, a true believer that will be content to take the fall just for opportunity & principle.

I doubt that it was half, but it was a significant portion and probably enough to make a sure win for Hillary into a 300+ electoral vote margin for Donald J. Trump.

He pulled over half the true vote last time and now he’s stuck in the high teens. Numbers speak for themselves, there are many 2016 Sanders voters who have chosen not-Sanders this time around, and are sticking with that decision.

> then have those dienfranchised Bernie supporters, et al (30-40%). Split from the Dems permanently and start their own party.

From your keyboard to God's ears.

A Dem/Independent third-party split is the best thing that could happen -- Trump will win so bigly that no one, but no one, could question the outcome.

‘Voting is a sham on the public, in general.’

nonsense; you are free as a bird to write in any name you wish for office...you are in fact guaranteed a vote, not for your preferred candidate to win...

“seem there” = “are facing an unwinnable race” + “looking for someone to make a valiant but doomed run”

“He was okay with the Dem cheating machine paying him off back in 2016.”

Being a swamp insider Bernie knew Arkancide is a real thing. When he was offered a choice of silver or lead he wisely chose the silver.

If that sword of Damocles be out there still, it hasn’t stopped hanging over his head, so why is he running again?—unless with their approval, let’s say.
