The Iraqi-American contractor who was killed in a rocket attack in Iraq in late December was buried in Sacramento on Saturday. His death was the start of a chain of events that U.S. leaders say prompted them to carry out drone strikes in Iraq and Syria, which culminated with the killing of Iranian military leader Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

The death of Sacramento resident Nawres Waleed Hamid is cited as one of the reasons the U.S. government killed the Soleimani, sparking concerns of a potential war with Iran.

Noor Alkhalil, Hamid’s wife, spoke with The Sacramento Bee from her Arden Arcade apartment. She felt something was wrong when Hamid stopped responding to her phone messages. Shortly after, she received a knock on her door. Hamid’s employer, Valiant Integrated Services, broke the news of his death.

From Iraq, arrived in 2011.

Poor sap of a linguist. Heaven forbid that someone should try to facilitate communications.

How many Iraqi “refugees” are back in Iraq making a buck on Uncle Sam’s dime? Just another refugee resettlement scam I suspect.

Likely got his refugee green card based on his work for the US amid claims of insecurity in Iraq. Then hot tailed it back to Iraq for a nice contractor paycheck. What a deal until he bought the farm.

I know a former special ops person who was heading to Africa as a contractor for just under $40,000 a month.

I know an Iraqi woman who worked with the American forces as a translator, ended up coming here to East TN with her husband and family. They are Chaldean Catholics, their kids go to our Catholic school. They started a restaurant.

Very good people,very good neighbors.

Nasty thing to say about a blameless guy who was killed because he worked for the Americans.

No more than the 500,000 children dead in Iraq because of “WMD’s” or the 290 civilians on Iranian Air 655.

We should not be there. Cui Bono?

No, it led to the U. S. making strikes on five of the Iranian general's groups in Iraq and Syria.

Then Iran tried to invade our embassy and perhaps kill our staff there.

That led to the strike on Iran's general.

We should thank this man, and say a prayer for him.

He is a hero in that he circuitously got rid of Salami of Iran.

Living inside the wire and outside the wire are very two different things. Inside the wire, you have on-call air support and veritable phalanxes of sentries and firepower to ward off nasties. Outside the wire, you’re just waiting for the click of the firing pin before a bullet lodges itself in your skull. Living in Iraq, the terps also had to worry about their kin, who were targeted for abduction and murder.

The pay is decent, but dangerous. You have to be a true believer to head back to the combat zone. This man may not have been born an American, but he was an American patriot. RIP.

the start of nothing.

the Mullahs in Iran were facing the biggest threat to their rule in 40 years - protests in hundreds of Iranian cities.

plus protesters across Iraq were demanding Iran get out of their country.

Iran attacked US to divert attention.
