raqis are celebrating the death of Iran's elite Quds Force chief, General Qassem Soleimani, by "dancing in the street", said US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo while sharing a video of people holding a rally.
In the 22-second video which Pompeo shared on Twitter, people are seen running on a road carrying a several meter-long Iraq national flag. The video is of some unspecified location in Iraq.
This comes hours after the United States confirmed that Soleimani has been killed in a defence strike near Baghdad International Airport.
"Iraqis -- Iraqis -- dancing in the street for freedom; thankful that General Soleimani is no more," Pompeo tweeted.

Besides Soleimani, Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and five others were also killed in the US airstrike at Baghdad's international airport, reported Iraqi officials and state television.
The attack has come days after an Iran-backed militia and other protesters attacked the United States Embassy in Baghdad.
The attack on the embassy came as a retaliation to a US airstrike that killed at least 25 people of the Popular Mobilization Forces.

You would think they would thank President Trump for saving the world the cost of a trial.
Who gets his ring. Maybe it had a chip in it.
So yesterday they were killed using katyusha rockets, now it’s an American airstrike.
.
There will be retaliation for this.
Huh?
It looks like they are.
Good question. Maybe it will show up on E-bay someday.
How many of them? Could be lying.
I am glad Suleimani took a bullet but one thing for sure in that sick part of the world. If they are dancing in the streets it involves celebration over someone’s death. Their biggest celebrations are reserved for dead Americans Probably a bunch of sunnis hating on the shia. I don’t trust any of them.
“There will be retaliation for this.”
Iran’s military commander was already preparing more terrorist mayhem.
The mullah’s are always retaliating for grievances going back hundreds of years.
It wasn’t stopping, quite the contrary.
LOL!
Damn, thats a funny tweet!
Retaliation for killing the architect of the attack on the American Embassy.
You definitely have got to work on your vocabulary.
Iran initiated an attack on American diplomats in Iraq and their senior commander in country died in a counterstrike.
The death of the unlamentworthy crap head general was a defensive operation and further strikes when your assault isn't going as planned are not” retaliation.
Welcome to Free Republic.
You have been here three months.
I would imagine (from the positions that you take) that you won't last a year.
“The attack has come days after an Iran-backed militia and other protesters attacked the United States Embassy in Baghdad. “
= = =
It needs to be made clear:
1. This attack on our embassy was an attack of American soil.
2. “Protesters”, if any, were a minor part of the attack on the embassy. These were heavily armed militia and they were well organized. They set up roadblocks and checkpoints around the embassy.
3. The militia was a proxy military force for Iran.
Surprisingly, even FR doesnt seem to know enough about this guy. Hes been orchestrating terrorism for years (maybe two decades) all over the ME; Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and other places.
Hes not the first senior Iranian terrorist supervisor to be done in. Many of the previous eliminations were probably targeting him but got other high value targets instead.
Can’t forget the Motor City!
