2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner and former Vice President Joe Biden said Monday he is open to selecting a Republican running mate to join him on the ticket if nominated this summer.
Our 21-year-old son said the other night, I wonder if Joe Biden would consider choosing a Republican as a running mate, one woman asked Biden during a New Hampshire town hall.
The answer is I would, but I cant think of one now, Biden responded. You know theres some really decent Republicans that are out there still, but heres the problem right now theyve got to step up.
It was a smart line from Biden, allowing the former vice president to appear bipartisan on par with his brand as the deceptively moderate voice in an extremist primary while refraining from commitment.
Despite Mondays comments, Biden is all but certain to choose a Democrat to join him on the ticket. No major party presidential nominee in modern American history has chosen a member of the opposing party for the vice-presidential slot. The closest a candidate ever came was former Republican Arizona Senator John McCain putting independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman who caucused with the Democrats on the partys ticket in 2008 before opting for Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
Regardless, Republican VP began trending almost immediately after Biden made the news. Some on Twitter were quick to write Bidens comments off as politically savvy rather than literally highlighting a flagrant double-standard held against Trump, whose every word is taken for its precise worth.
The degree to which this web site takes everything Biden says literally, as opposed to politically, is odd.
He's not going to choose a Republican VP. He thinks it's good politics to signal that he'll work with Republicans if they'll meet him halfway. He's probably right.

With just a month to go until the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses slated to be held on Feb. 3, Biden remains the clear frontrunner in national polls but has dropped to third in the Hawkeye state according to Real Clear Politics latest aggregate of polls. The Real Clear aggregate also puts Biden in third in New Hampshire, the first primary to follow Iowa. Biden still leads comfortably however in Nevada and South Carolina.
He’s trying to copy the Trump “Toss the Media a Bone”. That’ll get rid of Hunter fever for a few days.
McCain or Romney...
The RINO’s are salivating...
There’s always John Kasich.
I’m open to Bill Clinton serving as a marriage counselor.
If they dug him up and make him look good, the Delusional Dems would probably take him...
There would be precedent. John McCain also picked a Republican as his running mate.
Joe Biden is full of Shit, his kids are crooks
EOM
He was always there sock puppet anyway.
How bout a Republican woman? A twofer.
Collins or Murkowski would fit in just fine.
By that he means smash or other similar
ROFL
the libs are so desperate!
they have done everything they can think of to separate Trump from his supporters and none of it has worked!
ROFL
Of course they will all first have to pass Joes sniff test...
This is as stupid as McCain seriously considering Joe Lieberman as the VP when he ran for POTUS
But only if he can find a far left wing socialist Republican, preferably one that is homosexual or a transvestite.
It is ok with Biden if it is an African American, as long as he is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.
... and Paul Ryan.
... and Mitt Romney.
Corey “Spartacus” Booker once said he wouldn’t be Biden’s running mate, because you can’t have two men on a presidential ticket.
If that thinking is prevalent among Democrats, then Joe would be under enormous pressure to pick a woman, preferably a non white woman, to score extra points with the diversity crowd.
Stacey Abrams, perhaps? With her very public pouting of how the Georgia governor election was stolen from her, her very presence on the presidential ticket, would give great weight to the liberal charges that Republicans supress the vote to win elections.
