UK Spends $2 Million on Electric Cop Cars, Discovers They're Useless for Pursuit

The United Kingdom’s experiment with electric police vehicles has seemingly ended in failure after the cars have been revealed to be practically useless for crucial law enforcement activities.

As the U.K. Daily Mail reported, hundreds of the vehicles have been purchased across the country by different police forces.

The total cost of the green vehicles is almost £1.5 million — nearly $2 million in American currency.

While electric cars have their merits, the technology simply isn’t there for the vehicles to serve as regular parts of police fleets. Despite this, U.K. police forces have fielded over 400 of the green machines.

The cars come from different manufacturers, including BMW and Nissan.

The vehicles’ range is a central issue as well.

The battery reserves of the cars, which already take an inconveniently long time to charge, can’t even make it through a single shift without the need to be plugged back in.

Common sense in the UK seems to be in very short supply in many areas, these days.

Actually, “completely lacking” rather than “short supply.”

What a bunch of dunderheads in that nation.

If ONLY we had a way to store a very high-energy density liquid fuel on board and power an engine with that liquid fuel.

Perhaps the technology R&D guys should be started on that idea.

I call BS on the price tag, unless they only bought 10

Uplifting these to “police car” standard could easily cost 30-40K plus the cost of the base vehicle

My Parent’s HOA was buying new squad cars and I remember it was costing the HOA like 60K each and they were just basic ford interceptors

Gasoline powered cars still win in 1) refueling time and 2) duration of operation between refuelings.

“Coal and or hydro powered cars just aren’t ready for real life situations.”

They’re holding out for wind powered cars.

A few hundred portable gas powered charging stations will solve the issue.

There was a police chase recently, maybe in California, on the news.... cop ran out of power in electric car just as he was about to catch up with the culprit!

Oregon, Washington and Montana are closing all their coal plants. You will no longer be able to call electric cars coal powered in that region. You will be able to call them “not powered” because in 4 to 6 years there are going to be brownouts in the Pacific Northwest. And that is not far off at all.

Someone should figger out a way to surreptitiously sink the power from these “units” for free power, or to reduce their effectiveness.

Sorry, there NO hydrogen mines now in production. And besides, on-board storage of hydrogen for vehicles is still a pretty dicey proposition.

"No smoking in the vehicle, please!"

Similar to Seattle. The elites ordered a bunch of trolley cars only to find out they won’t go around the track radii, to long.
