Funny how the environmental objectives of the "Save the Planet from the Flying Global Warming Monster" squad and that of Marxism line up so neatly.
Of course you shouldn't have personal autonomy or private property. It's bad for the 'planet'. And by the planet, we mean the red planet.
So it's no surprise that The Nation, where the synergy of the red and the green meet, should roll out a story like this, "If we want to keep cities safe in the face of climate change, we need to seriously question the ideal of private homeownership."
...
And give up on dreams of independence and private property. Instead we can all live in barracks or gulags.
Won't that be fun.
...
Go to the collective farms, the gulags, and to slavery. For the planet.

That’s about as plain as you can make it!
All the busy-body environmentalists should live the way they demand others to live, if it’s so good for ‘em.
Good points. We have at least 12 over 55 developments in my area and one development for families. I never thought of that until you mentioned that.
Thanks; it is really coming to a head here in NJ because a lot of ageing American homeowners have realized they are paying among the highest property taxes in the country for non-American students.
Regulations, gentrification and HOAs play into the hands of communists. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
Funny how every solution to Global Anthropogenic Climate Whatever involves taking things away from people and tightening control over them.
You would think that solution would occasionally, just occasionally, involve more freedom in innovation.
But nooooooooooooooo. Always less freedom. Always a lower standard of living.
At least for the peons.
It is almost like Environmentalism isn’t the environment at all...
/sarc just in case.
UN Agenda 21 is a direct assault on private property rights and American sovereignty, and it is coming to a neighborhood near you.
Agenda 21 as a sustainability agenda which is an amalgamation of socialism and extreme environmentalism brushed with anti-American, anti-capitalist overtones.
"There is living space for 13 families in this one house!"
Well, 100 years from now when the planet population is about 30B, all the 1 family homes can add 2 stories so 2 more families can move in. The WM trucks will be obsolete, they will be replaced by 18 wheelers with tandem trailers for trash pick ups. Parking? You don’t need parking, there will be no private owned vehicles. You will have electric skate boards to go shopping. If you want to go visit relative out of state, the electric powered blimps will take you there. There will be fast electric powered long distance trains to take you from coast to coast. Ahhh yes, and none of us will be there.
Those over 55 communities are sprouting up all over the NYC metro area - like mushrooms - as Baby Boomers start to retire in force.
Strange; unless it is an exclusive community, why are the taxes so high? Our school taxes are about 1/3 of our total property taxes here in NJ; are you in NY?
I think towns see them as a way to keep the stability of older people in the area with low offsetting costs; is the $10,000 low for the area (compared to single-family homes, for example)?
I live in Fairfield country CT so it's right up there with Westchester so far as taxes go.
The home I moved out of cost me $14,000/yr in taxes so believe it or not, I'm saving about $375/mo in taxes by moving here!
I see, so there is definitely a savings - I just thought it would be higher. The perks you mention wouldn’t be included in taxes, unless “fees” are substituted for “municipal taxes”.
Using this theory-— You can NEVER own your home-—because there will never be a mortgage to pay off. I own my property free & clear & I am NOT alone
Landlords nationwide are already under stress because of laws that protect the renter far above the rights of the landlord.
Don’t pay your rent? Blame it on the landlord. Sue in front of People’s Court or Judge Judy.
Rent control laws make being a landlord very unattractive-—because maintenance & taxes rise much faster than the allowable rents.
The damages done by savages who live as tho they were raised by wolves usually far exceed the ‘deposit’ the landlord is allowed to have.
Before photos & After photos” re the only things that can SOMETIMES save a landlord-—but getting a judgement isn’t the same as COLLECTING a judgement.
Now, in Nevada, state wide, a landlord CANNOT ask for a criminal background from a prospective tenant. Imagine owning a 6 part unit or a 10 or 12 or 14 part unit & NOT being able to screen out the Pedophile or sex offender who has a records back to age 11 & you CANNOT ask for such records before you are required to rent to them.
Next thing you know, women & children in the units are under duress & their safety is compromised. THEY CAN SUE for being subjected to such parameters, and the landlord loses again. Removing such an undesirable tenant is also hard. Multiple trips to court & they are NOT paying their rent & utilities while all of the above is happening.
What do these idiots propose for rural persons? Ranches? Farms???
Forcing everyone into high rise multiple tenant dwellings traps people with whatever criminals the city/state/s won’t prosecute properly. You cannot defend yourself from the FERAL ARMY that is the result of 60+++ years of ‘welfare’ & other freebies handed out & paid for by the taxpayers.
A very high percentage of the USA lives in single family housing & trying to convince them that high density buildings is better won’t sell well.
How about Ted Turner? Last I heard, he is the largest land owner in Montana.
...give up on dreams of independence and private property. Instead we can all live in barracks or gulags... Go to the collective farms, the gulags, and to slavery. For the planet.
Thanks george76.
The left offers hell on earth... for everyone EXCEPT HIGH PARTY OFFICIALS.
You think the deep state is bad now? You aint' seen nothin' yet.
