And again from General Turgidson:
I'd hate to make a call like that before all the facts are in, Mr President.
If this weapon is so unstoppable, why are the publishing so much hype on their hypersonic glider.
The USAF has the same tech, but its kept secret.
The Popular Mechanix readers here will point out all the particle beam and rail gun systems they claim are already deployed.
We have had this for some time and already used it.
We must not have a mineshaft gap/hypersonic gap.
This whole story is b...shite! Make it easy, multiply just 600 x 27 and you get 16,400 mph (actually about 18,000 mph) about the speeds of an Apollo orbital rentry, speeds so high a couple feet of titanium were needed to keep the astronauts alive, let alone some really sensitive circuits. So no freaking way this thing works, people get sucked into some really unbelievable things!
There are many more applications than making a turbojet operate at Mach 7 on JP-8. Explore the references of page 12. Copy and paste this address...

Hey Ivan, we got your military madness:
............
“All they need is GPS/GLONASS. Im not certain that Mach 20 is what theyve achieved or if its a bad translation/transcription by mediatards, but Mach 10 is more than reasonably achievable.
Fun fact: Most Western missile defense systems can not cope with a hypersonic sea or surface skimmer.”
Lockheed Martin is said to be developing a multi-layered defense system to deal with those hypersonic threats.
As far as the Mach 20 hypersonic intercontinental weapon the Russians are boasting about, that would require a booster rocket that could be knocked down in the launch phase by cluster attacks from SBI interceptors launched from a Brilliant Pebbles type missile defense system, destroying the rocket before the hypersonic vehicle even has a chance to separate. We would of course have to develop such a system, but the Russian claim that there’s no defense against their weapon is nonsense.
“Star Wars”
There’s no *existing* defense against this missile.
Lockheed Martin hasn’t shown anything, and it’s worth remembering that the much easier to achieve vehicle APS system idea was supposed to be developed by Raytheon as Quick Kill, but that ended up being vaporware for so long that the US Army hastily had to buy Trophy systems from Israel after the debacle in Syria with the Turkish Leopard 2A4/5s. Lockheed’s development should be considered vaporware until they can show something.
Most of their subs and their current carrier are ancient, dating to before the fall of the Soviet Union. This missile is new, and was likely developed in conjunction with the Indians. With whom the Russians also developed the Brahmos hypersonic missile - that one is operational and has been shown to actually meet claimed specs in front of independent observers.
Oh, there’s already a railgun deployed at sea for testing.
By the Chinese.
We don’t even have one on a floating test platform, just an onshore test installation.
Nuclear tipped missiles don’t exactly have to be terribly accurate. A CPE of about half a mile usually works just fine.
No, the USAF does not have similar technology. It was cancelled long ago and no testing has been observed of anything that could be the replacement.
We also don’t have supercavitating torpedoes and the anti-torpedo-torpedo project to protect the carriers has been canned because it failed in field testing.
“They have a “glide system” that affords great manoeuvrability and could make them impossible to defend against. “
At over 14,000 MPH, the maneuverability would be suspect to say the least - heard it said if a SR71 was cooking across the Kalifornia coastline heading for a east coast landing, and was ordered to land in Kalifornia, it would be over Kansas by the time it got turned around.
As a line-of-sight “bullet” it might be tough to defend against but a lot of slowing would be needed to do the final homing in on a target.
Well then, are wee up shit creek without a paddle or is the Donald fixing this as well?
That’s it let’s preemptively scuttle our AC Carrier fleet now since they are vulnerable to attack. /sarc
