Just heard the announcement on WMAL Radio in DC.
I remember him from when I worked in Midtown Manhattan at Rock Ctr, back in the 70s and early 80s. He was always good for a few laughs on the way into work. RIP.

Didn’t he get lambasted for calling women basketball players “nappy headed hoes”?

RIP. He had a good run. I’m surprised he’s this old. Then again, I’ve never watched his TV show, even though I’ve listened to his radio program.

What a shame. I thought for sure he'd enjoy a long retirement when he left the airwaves early this year, but I guess he'd lived a hard life.
He's got his fans and detractors, but he was a legend in the radio business. Even when his ratings were mediocre he still commanded top advertising dollars because his listeners were among the wealthiest and most accomplished people in the nation's major metro areas.

And for me, his musical guests kept me coming back often.

No more rubber chickens.
He was Stern before there was Stern.
Had a rough turn with drugs, but seemed to put his life back together.
Grouchy ol’ cuss till the end of his radio days.
RIP...
