This is either a prank, a misunderstanding (e.g., as you suggest, a monthly rental fee), or something very unorthodox, possibly criminal. If the latter - which is what Coulter implies - I have no idea what the possible explanation could be.

And the beautiful thing is that because of the SALT deduction limitation we won’t be subsidizing them be giving him federal income tax relief.

Not that he will be paying federal taxes since he says he’s unemployed and had no income. Wink, wink, wink!

Your getting a piece of information and you don’t know enough about it. You damn well that it didn’t sell for $14,000. Perhaps he’s renting with an option to buy...since $14,000 was listed as the rental price. You need the real recorded deed to see what’s going on not a piece from a realty site.

Even if it’s true that this is actually a $14,000-per-month rental, not a purchase price, that is nearly $170,000 a year from someone who is claiming to be broke.

I have seen thousands of California grant deeds. I cannot recall ever seeing a purchase price recited in a single one. Most do not even have the street address.

I must correct my previous post.

I have seen recitations of purchase prices in very old deeds. I recall one where it recites that the purchaser paid $5.00 in gold, and agreed never to sell the property to any member of the negro or mongolian races. That was from the 1920s. But anymore, there’s no recitation of the purchase price. You CAN determine how much was borrowed on the property where there is a deed of trust (the California version of a mortgage) because deeds of trust are recorded which recite the loan terms.
