Democrats Seek To Outlaw Suburban, Single-Family House Zoning, Calling It Racist And Bad For The Environment
The Daily Caller ^ | 12/23/19

Posted on 12/23/2019 1:47:25 PM PST by Liberty7732

Virginia House Del. Ibraheem Samirah introduced a bill that would override local zoning officials to permit multi-family housing in every neighborhood, changing the character of quiet suburbs.

Oregon passed a similar bill, following moves by cities such as Minneapolis; Austin, Texas; and Seattle.

Proponents say urban lifestyles are better for the environment and that suburbs are bastions of racial segregation.

Bullshit. It would not outlaw single family homes. It would just allow multi family homes as well as single family homes.

“Where do I send my respirations?”

South. A burp is a little gas that comes from the heart, but when it takes the southern route, it’s simply called a fart.

They want us all disarmed, packed like sardines into densely populated cities, at the mercy of public transport and completely under the thumbs of the elites.

From The New Yorker:

This prelapsarian landscape hides the menacing vices of white suburban culture - religious bigotry, racial angst, and ritualistic misogyny. The dark underbelly of America's primitive rural cultural ethos, one that has proven distressingly resistant to progressive and inclusive ideals, thrives in such pastoral settings.

Restrictive zoning is one of the things that drives real estate prices up, creates NIMBY factions and prevents the market from organically correcting itself.

Single family zoning prevents retired people from converting garages or basements into an apartment for extra income, prevents the addition of MIL units and many other types of remodeling that people often want to undertake when life throws curveballs.

Restrictive zoning is a dumb idea made worse by dumb bureaucrats trying to predict and control future development.

IMO it depends on the area. California has such a desperate housing shortage, and so much of that is due to NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard), that this is a proper and necessary part of addressing all the myriad problems caused by those issues. Other things are necessary too, but a state government override of local single-family residence zoning has to be part of that package.

For the whole bloody state of California, where I'ved lived all of my life. Of which the last 37 years has been in a single-family residence in a single-family zoned subdivision that I designed myself. There is lots of buildable land here. Draw a straight line between Sacramento and Fresno, find a point halfway between those two cities and there I am.

There are lots of areas where this solution is necessary, and probably some other whole states.

A friend in Texas tells me there is no zoning there and they’ve been fine with it. There are, however, disposable subdivisions where most to almost all of the initial buyers move on to new ones after 10-15 years.
