State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement Saturday that the U.S. is "concerned" by a request for military support by the Government of National Accord (GNA). The U.S. is also concerned about the Libyan National Army's (LNA) "threat to use foreign-supplied air assets and mercenaries."
Forces led by the LNA's Khalifa Haftar have been supported by Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Russian mercenaries, according to the wire service, which cited diplomats and Tripoli officials.
A U.S. official told Reuters that the presence of the Russian forces is "creating a bloodier conflict."
"More civilian damage, damage to infrastructure like the airports..hospitals have been targeted. But at the same time we dont see that Haftar is gaining ground," the person reportedly said.

I just think it was the Leftists. Soros, Clinton, McCain, Graham, and I think Rubio all championed this “excellent” idea.
They thought they would be the heroes who got rid of Khadaffi. Trouble is, Khadaffi had moderated, he wasn’t causing problems for the West, and his nation was stable.
He wasn’t going out of his way to be mean to his citizens either.
In walks these creatures of ignorance, and now look what we have.
Look the MIC could have pushed McCain no doubt, but I think the others were just too ignorant to turn Hillary and McCain down.
Soros had been funding the Muslim Brotherhood, and it was at his instigation this took place.
On more thing. Soros had funded the overthrow of the leadership in Tunisia before moving on to Libya.
This is why I reference him as running his own foreign policy, which is a clear egregious example of a violation of the Logan Act, IMO.
He should be prosecuted for it, among a lot of other things.
Let France or Italy deal with it. They’re the countries most directly affected with “refugees.” We already fought the shores of Tripoli aka Leathernecks, already saw our people murdered needlessly in Benghazi.
BTW Libya is North Africa, not the ME.
A U.S. official told Reuters that the presence of the Russian forces is “creating a bloodier conflict.”
Even bloodier than when we were there? Is this a contest?
We can’t stabilize BALTIMORE and people here are going on about stabilizing AFRICA.
Not very good at defending ourselves from foreign invasion, either.
Obama and Clinton are like herpes. Their effects just keep popping up without warning.
Winston has done an excellent job of removing this craptacular failure of State Deptartment policy from all discourse, web pages, tablets, and obelisks.
Seriously...who cares. When politicians, upper level fed employees and the extremely wealthy send their children to be maimed, to be psychologically screwed-up or to die...give a call.
Thanks for the great and thorough feed back on our elect left wingers and Libya.
Hilarious Caesar: I came, I saw, I Coughed!
70,000 employees gives them quite a standing Army. All that ammunition they purchased during the Obama administration should serve them well!
Tbank you Grampa Dave.
I repeat stuff I’ve learned over time, not intending to preach to you, but I want others to be aware of it.
Some lurkers here probably hear animosity toward Soros, but don’t know the foundation for it.
Take care. Hope our having a great season, and Merry Christmas.
If the whole Arab Spring fiasco, Egypt and Syria ring any bells one might guess if one side is supported by US and Turkey and another by Russia, Egypt and UAE you automatically know who are the bad guys.
Egypt has really dodged the bullet when it managed so rebel and overthrow that Muzzie Brotherhood freak Hitlery installed to reign over them.
Pompeo better shut up. I believe Trump promised to finish with screwing around in Africa and Middle East but as we see it is more like an escalation so far.
If they see the threat to US influence in Russian forces coming to help out the good or at least the least bad guys that is basically confusing between causes and consequences.
US influence is primarily getting destroyed by backing the bad guys for vested interests of certain people in US government.
In fact it is a sort of US concern because if not for Hillary there wouldn’t be any troubles to start with.
But when it comes to solutions Egypt is in Africa and UAE is in close proximity. Africa is a sort of their business, not Turkish or American business. And if they want Australia, Antarctica, Mexico, Iceland or Russia for allies it is their business as well. Given US and Turkish record over a last decade they sure don’t want any American ‘help’ whatsoever. Everybody remember McCain chilling out with ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
We need to sit this one out, let the cards play, and stop selling javelins like candy. Libya’s in another civil war that has now involved multiple countries against the GNA. The main player here is Haftar, who may still be a dual American citizen circa 1990.
Another problem is Lockheed’s javelins, sold to Qatar and others around May 2016. Another sale to UAE was approved this year by the State Dept. Some of the javalins sold to the UAE have been found in compounds of rebels supporting Haftar. And if troops have them, Russia has them. Another problem is Haftar’s blind eye to Salafists, although his credo is that of a mortal enemy of the muslim brotherhood. The US has allegedly flown air support for some of Haftar’s battles. And, Russia if firmly supporting Haftar. If we now support the GNA, we’re in yet another proxy war with Russia, and, risk damaging any relationship we have with the UAE, who also supports Haftar.

Knock yourselves out, go “stabilize” Libya. But, bring our 30 million+ and growing daily new neighbors and their kids because ya aint getting mine. Ever.
