The publication is small, reaching just a fraction of the evangelical movement.
But when Christianity Today called for President Trumps removal in a blistering editorial on Thursday, it met the full force and fury of the president and his most prominent allies in the Christian conservative world. If the response seemed disproportionate, it vividly reflected the fact that white evangelicals are the cornerstone of Mr. Trumps political base and their leaders are among his most visible and influential supporters.
In the background, however, is a more nuanced reality that Christianity Todays editorial hints at: a number of conservative Christians remain deeply uncomfortable with an alliance with the president.

Because Mark Galli is at heart a communist
His social gospel view of the world has nothing to do with being an evangelical
Really, who are evangelicals supposed to vote for? Ex-Methodist Hillary? Ex-Jew, full-time Commie Bernie? Pete Bugger-me? Pagan Indian Lie-awatha?
.....time for a new editor......

You have been granted your wish. This editor retires next week, iirc. This was his parting shot and judging from the wrath he probably hurt the magazine more than Trump. Remainers can’t be thrilled with the trouble he left behind.
Franklin Graham and Tony Perkins stomped him good.
Doesn’t count for anything unless they lose subscriptions.
Trump will never sue the Little Sisters of the Poor or advocate the sale of baby parts. Did Christianity Today criticize the Obama administration for those transgressions?
And I’m deeply uncomfortable with those who call themselves Christian who hate President Trump with a passion, those who openly and vocally say that they despise him.
I can see not liking everything he does, but the rage and vitriol is inexcusable for a Christian.
Says who? The lying, out-of-touch, NYT's run by the spirit of antichrist?
Elizabeth Dias and Jeremy W. Peters know what's going on with "conservative Christians? Really? What's a "conservative Christian" according to them? A born-again Christian? Do they even have a clue what born-again means?
Fugggedddabouddddit.
A President is not a Pope.
Although Trump would make for a better Pope than the current one.
Yes, that is a manufactured narrative, isn’t it?
Mostly, what I hear from people of faith, are statements such as :
1. Trump is the most pro-life president in history.
2. Trump is the most pro-Israel president in history.
3. Trump is appointing pro-life judges to the courts.
4. Trump is squarely behind religious freedom.
5. Trump’s personal failings are not a problem, because we are electing a commander in chief, not a pastor in chief.
6. Whatever Trump’s failings, the idea that we will ever elect a president of pure virtue is nonsense.
7. Whatever Trump’s failings, electing a liberal Democrat because of Trump’s failings is nonsense, because that liberal Democrat would also have failings, AND, that liberal Democrat would not be appointing pro-life judges or supporting religious freedom issues.
Pathetic NYT time to foment discord between evangelicals and Trump by pointing to some faux ‘evangelicals in name only’ and claiming the evangelical world is turning against Trump
Keep trying to do the Devil’s work NYT- We’re onto you!
What the article fails to mention is that these are people who did not vote for President Trump last time. In other words, despite the left’s desperation to separate Pres. Trump from his base, nothing has changed except to ADD to that number. Nothing to see here.
Exactly- There was no other choice- and even if there were- I’d still have preferred Trump because of his business acumen and his strong Israeli stances, and his love for this country and his fearlessness in fighting liberals-
Even if there were a more pure but less fighting republican, I still would have preferred Trump knowing what i know about him now-
[[And Im deeply uncomfortable with those who call themselves Christian who hate President Trump with a passion, those who openly and vocally say that they despise him.]]
Exactly- they deny that God knows what He’s doing by ensuring Donald Trump got elected-
[[but the rage and vitriol is inexcusable for a Christian.]]
Bingo-
a number of conservative Christians remain deeply uncomfortable with an alliance with the president.]]]]
That number would be about 42.
Was that Editor on the L.A. Times Democrat Focus Group where they all called Trump Supporters Ignorant Evil Stupid Racists?
The Lord uses flawed people, sinners, to serve His purpose. He does it all the time: King David had Uriah killed so he could grab his wife Bathsheba. When Moses was young he killed an Eqyptian overseer, buried his body in the sand, and he ran away. Paul persecuted and condemned Christians, some to their deaths. And yet God raised them up to become great and faithful servant-leaders.
Compared to their sins Trump is a piker.
A number? A very small number! Less than 1%!
A Real Christian would understand that Man himself is incapable of bringing about The Kingdom of God on his own, it’s a blasphemous concept.
Render Unto Caesar!
